It's only a movie / Nobody deserves to win a banning, including BluBonnet / What's going on in the world / A bunch of folks complain and wish for someone to be banned for life, and bam! Gone forever just to please a bunch of few, hew! / Lily's still a winner in my book / Congrats Emma!

If the best actress won, then Sandra Hüller or Lily Gladstone would have been on that stage on Sunday. Stone is great, but she's not really that unique a performance when you know "Frankenhooker" or Lars von Trier.

i would agree about hüller not being a huge surplus as a winner. but i feel like the hate for stone is insane. she has the largest arc of the character. she has to play her at so many different stages. the movie isn’t shot in sequence, so it all has to be mapped out before hand. she is in almost every scene of the movie. she has to say some of the wildest and craziest things and make it feel not only believable but never have you feel like you don’t like her character.

lily literally almost sleeps through the performance. she isn’t even in every other scene. there are large stretches of the movie where she is entirely absent. and when she is in the movie, she is always secondary.

Lily, Emma, and Sandra all have great but different performances! Emma’s is more external so people who don’t pay a lot of attention grasp onto it more and see acting with a capital A!

But all gave nuanced performances and whether they won the statue or not doesn’t change that. But I see the vendetta against this movie is still strong. Thank you haters for pumping up the engagement in this thread and making this thread stay on the front page! Helps people to discover this masterwork of a movie! It’s never too late to discover a movie.

I haven't seen Lily's performance so can't speak about her but definitely think Sandra or Annette should have been on that stage. Poor Things was a poor imitation of Lars von Trier. Can't believe Kirsten Dunst was snubbed for Melancholia but this was allowed to win. Only Mark Ruffalo was decent in his supporting role.

BTW, I haven't seen it announced on here, but we got word through one of our library media fulfillment companies:

They have at the very least indefinitely postponed (very likely canceled) the physical media release of KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON.

And no, I'm not making this up, this was, "Patron holds are being canceled, temp MARC listings are pulled from library catalog, please inform patrons if they ask."
