Well to be fair, someone has to try, we need more than just the films Hollywood deems worthy of ramming down our throats.

The thing is that there's so much out there already even beyond A24, but there is so little interest from people in general compared to Hollywood.

Just finished Battle Royale, that was a bit meh, I have no idea why it's rated so highly, it's not a terrible movie but the concept is so unbelievable I just couldn't take any of it seriously. Coupled with the stupidity of the students. Screaming, overacting and not thinking anything through I just ended up being annoyed and frustrated with the characters.

Felt like a bad attempt at adapting anime concepts to live action.

Yeah, I wasn't a fan either. It just seemed poorly made and edited and none of it really worked for me.

I've only seen the first 10 minutes or so of it and I couldn't stop laughing when Pugh started to go full Duck mode (no offence to her).

What makes A24 work is that they are helping fill that void in the middle, Someone like yourself who watches hundreds of movies a year and follows film festival news and so on, A24 is probably not going to be the bee's knees, but for those who aren't doing a lot of research on film, yet still want something more daring or unique than what the big studios are putting out, A24 is a solid source.

The Three Musketeers 2011 is an unabashed, unpretentious slice of swashbuckling fun. It has a solid cast of reliable actors playing likable characters with even Corden who gets to be the butt of the joke where he belongs, it has well done swordplay, it's notably gorgeous in its production and costume design, and it is grand in scope with big and enjoyable action set pieces. Paul W.S. Anderson is a master of schlock, but he shows actual restraint in comparison to his other work, and working with a script he didn't write benefitted him very much a la Event Horizon and Soldier... It's not a coincidence.

So what if it went for flights of fancy with the source material?? 300 gets tons of love and it was a purely fantastical take on actual history... 3M is fiction.

Just don't get the hate, how can ya not have a good time with pure popcorn entertainment?

I like Three Musketeers. I always thought Bloom did a good job as the heavy too.

Mean Guns did it better (and first).

Observing the behaviour of the population in the past year or so, I see it as a documentary myself. If I were to look at social media, I'm sure I'd see plenty of examples of teenagers (and adults) not thinking clearly.

One of my favourite films. Remember it getting bad reviews from the critics but I loved the trailer and saw it back to back with Fast and the Furious. Then saw it 5 more times in the cinema then got the Hong Kong DVD when it was released, then the Tartan DVD with white-on-white subtitles (ugh, quite common back in the day).

With it being 20 years old, I can understand it losing some of it's impact.

This was back in the day when far-east cinema was on fire. Unfortunately it seems like only Korea is carrying the torch.

Thought I'd add an unpopular opinion:
Alfred Hitchcock Presents (1955) > Alfred Hitchcock films.

It was a mix bag for me, but overall yeah I enjoyed it. It felt like a good enough start to something, but were it to stand alone, it'd be kind of weak. Thankfully a sequel is indeed on the way.
