I will admit it's the only Trek I wish would've gone past 7 seasons. I add the caveats that would have to include Jadzia, I never liked Ezri. I also felt like ENT had more to tell but I am not a writer so I don't know where it would go.

I always wanted a Star Wars space station series to go along with DS9 and Babylon 5. Heck, I'd still enjoy something like that. Starlight Beacon from the new High Republic novels has rekindled the idea for me.

Mandalorian is kinda like that, I think it was more average than amazing but at least the main character is more interesting than dull fan favourite Boba Fett.

The Ring of Kafrene from Rogue One (where Cassian Andor shoots that guy in the alley) had the vibe I'd want. Reminded me of the Star Wars: Underworld test footage.

Nah, I would say GvK would be the worst (even though I still enjoy it)

At least KOTM didn't throw in a classic Toho monster in the last minute and barely gave them a chance to shine.

I love found footage and I can't stand Cloverfield. All the main characters are soooo obnoxious and the writing is terrible. Marketing campaign/trailers made it seem so amazing, too

Obligatory unpopular movie opinion: If you really hate Cameron's Titanic, check out the uncut 1943 Nazi propaganda version, where a heroic German officer tries and fails to stop the villainy of the British! Maybe Cameron's version is not so bad after all, although I admit I have never seen it and have no plans to. I know I love 1958's British 'A Night to Remember' and that is enough.

I can’t say I’ve ever seen Cameron’s Titanic. The subject material revolving around a love story instead of a disaster film doesn’t interest me.

Your comment regarding the characters is why I mentioned Cloverfield in my misunderstood films thread.

Eh, it came out at a bad time to interest me. All those Oscar nods, all those tween girls going to see it 50 times "because of the amazing special effects" and knowing the ending in advance lol. I guess I felt like being cool just by not seeing it and here I am in 2021, still haven't seen it. Oh well lol.

As I said I'm a huge found footage fan, a genre that doesn't generally have the best writing, acting or characterizations. I honestly can forgive a lot in that regard, but the characters in Cloverfield just felt especially hateful to me. What do you think is fundamentally misunderstood about the film? Maybe you said it in the thread but I didn't see it.

I saw it marketed as a Godzilla found footage film but that was misleading. Clearly it was just a mockementary about how a bunch of idiots would react during a disaster.

No you are correct I did not elaborate (was just about to start work when I posted the thread). Here’s my take on it…

First off, if anyone hated the characters, or the actors’ portrayals thereof, no one can take that away from them or change their minds. That’s theirs to keep & I wouldn’t attempt to make them ‘unsee’ so to speak. I will simply offer what I saw. The movies point was to be as realistic as possible. To this end, making the characters 20-something hipsters in uptown NY is certainly an accurate demographic representation of a sizeable (if not outright majority) part of the population. Those are the type of people who would be caught in this, were it real. That, I think, gets lost in some - some - of the criticism of the characters. Personally I neither loved nor hated them. I was there for the monster spectacle, & I got it. Plus the actresses playing Beth & Lily were pretty hot, which doesn’t hurt. But I do think the movie often gets criticised for having obnoxious hipsters as the focus, when I think that added to the realism because those are the people you really would find in large quantities in that setting.

Just my two cents.

Odette Anable and Lizzy Caplan are just two of the gorgeous women in the film, yes. A great example that even gorgeous women cannot save a film if you're not enjoying it already.
