The Christmas tree made a great Ewok village for a chicken-walker assault ...

True, but I don't see that happening. Everything we've seen so far, I'm convinced we won't have another PT situation on our hands.

Have to say, I think the casting of Ridley, Boyega and Isaac could be the kind of master stroke that the prequel movies never had. I think they're capable of anchoring the new movies just as effectively as Hamill, Ford and Fisher did, and Christensen, Portman and McGregor (through no fault of his own) didn't.

I was extremely disappointed by TPM. TFA did not disappoint...at all. "Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Clause."

I can't believe that neither LA, Chicago, Toronto or NYC will have a 70mm print showing, that is truly a sad state of affairs.

Can't believe they would do that. They are showing it in 3D and expect you to bring your own glasses.
Toronto is showing the 3D, but they are still 15/70mm compatible. I guess they decide which one they think they'll make more money off. Shame, I would have taken 1/2 day on Friday 18th to go to the 6:30am screening in Toronto and suffered the 90 mins traffic each way had they gone with the 70mm print.

I would make some snide comment about how one was Lucas and the other was Abrams, but I won't do that.

EDIT: Oh, and that Rey poster? She looks like she's going to really kick someone's ass. Like it.

The majority of people who were kids when TPM came out in 1999 enjoyed it immensely, the kids were extatic through the whole movie. Of course those millions of happy kids didn't rush off to the Internet to bad-mouth the movie.

As a result, a lot of media outlets became convinced the movie had disappointed *most* of the people who watched it, rather than a small but very vocal minority.

Thanks Terminated. I definitely appreciate your efforts to post the latest Star Wars VII pics in this thread, stuff I otherwise would've missed.

Seriously, what's with the Lucas-bashing? Without him, we wouldn't have the Star Wars universe. So you don't like some of his artistic choices? Tough gundark, please feel free to create your own fictional universe that is more to your liking and where only you get to call the rules. You guys deserve to live in a parallel universe where Lucas literally never existed at all, and nobody created Star Wars, and 70s cinema was limited to the works of Scorsese, Coppola, Brian de Palma and William Friedkin.
Good point.
Star Wars wouldn't exist without George Lucas' original vision and drive to make it happen.
Ralph MacQuarrie was also key to Star Wars moving forward, as it was his great artwork and vision that helped sway Fox to fund the first Star Wars movie after George Lucas presented it to the decision board from what I've seen. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ralph_McQuarrie

As a big Star Wars fan, I always thought TPM was decent. Yes Jar Jar sucked, and the acting was pretty bad (which to be quite frank is par the course for Star Wars), but it had alot of amazing scenes such as the podrace and the Maul vs Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan fight.

Interestingly, I found this video on YouTube today that showed the reaction of many Star Wars fans before and after seeing TPM. Granted it's a small sample size, but the reactions in this video were very similar in my experience, locally at the time. You have to wonder how much the social media of today can do to persuade individuals to change or alter their perception of something they liked.

Star Wars Fans REACT To Phantom Menace - YouTube
Ha! That was great! I love the last guy...thumbs doooown!

If the reactions were this positive for Ep. I, then TFA should be great! This looks much darker, along the lines of Empire, than TPM was. I enjoyed ESB the most of the six.
