I went shopping last night for the first time in two weeks for groceries and such. It wasn't fun, but it wasn't as bad as I expected, either. I was able to get much of what I needed and even one blu-ray: Richard Jewell.

I only have one pending online order and that is for 1917 on 4K disc that I ordered from Vudu. I do not know if it will arrive on schedule or not, but I have not been notified of any delays, either.

I ordered 5 blu-ray's from Amazon on Monday and received them yesterday. Not exactly the 2 day shipping that I pay for but much better than I was expecting.

Agreed. I don't plan on ordering anything further but I had an Amazon gift card burning a hole in my pocket.

With that being said, Warner Archive is offering 4 for $44 on their site. That is awfully tempting because there are a ton I want from WAC.

Sales come and go and they come again. As the economy tanks, we may see some really deep discounting on a whole lot of things.

Netflix denies quality drop as it reduces bitrates by 25 per cent

Netflix has said its bandwidth reduction, introduced this week in the UK and Europe, won’t mean an appreciable loss of picture quality for enthusiast subscribers. 'This is a technical change that shouldn't affect the quality of the streaming,' the company posted on Twitter. 'You will continue to see content in the quality of your plan (always depending on the connection and the device, as before), so your experience should be the same.'

The OTT giant announced that it’s reducing bitrates to bring about a 25 per cent reduction on European and UK networks for 30 days, following conversations with EU officials.

Netflix is back pedaling then, no real surprise there, because just yesterday they said this:

"A Netflix spokesperson told CNN Business the reduction may mean some users "see a reduction in perceptible video quality," while others won't see any change."

This is also the same Netflix that is not lowering the rates that they charge commensurate with their reduction in bitrates. They are delivering less quality for the same price, which is kind of an FU to their customers. Netflix is saving on their bandwidth costs regardless of how perceptible this bitrate reduction is and they are passing none of those savings to their customers during these exceptionally difficult times. It makes me all the happier that they don't get a cent from me.

Streaming customers generally are not known for their discriminating perception in terms of video and audio quality, so many may well not notice a thing. After all, that spinning circle of theirs looks awesome at every resolution.
