If the entire internet was removed, maybe real social skills would improve and all manner of brick and mortar stores would see a resurgence? Products and services should stand or fall upon their merits. The streaming genie is out of the bottle and it ain't going back in. |

I do not really want to post hints that narrow down where I live, so I do offer this article about an independent video rental store in Charlotte, NC dated Jan. 18, 2020 a full decade after Lee said no such stores existed:
https://www.wfae.org/post/viva-visar...rofit#stream/0 It only takes a single example to prove an "all this or all that" claim to be wrong. ![]() Is that anywhere near to you, Wendell? If so, maybe you can visit them and have a retro good time? ![]() |

About 90 miles to the east. As we travel around western NC we will still see some mon & pop stores. A map of some here. The Ingles food stores used to have video rental sections but most have been replaced with one or more Redbox kiosk.

Interesting article here:
"While there are indications that 8k content will eventually come to streaming services, Chris Chinnock, executive director of the 8K Association, ruled out 8k content on physical media. “The Blu-ray Disc Association is not looking at 8k,” he told Inside CI. “Discussions could start again, but I see this as a low probability.” Chinnock confirmed that outside of IMAX, there’s no studio representation in the 8k Association. “That's not surprising. In many ways, studios are almost the last ones to get on board,” he says. “They will want to see everything else in the ecosystem ready, with a certain level of installed base. They're very bottom line oriented.” http://www.insideci.co.uk/news/uhd-8...ay-format.aspx |

The only way 8K TVs will become commonplace is if they only offer such TVs in the future as is pretty much the case with 4K TVs today. Until 8K TVs are adopted by a substantial number of people, I doubt that the studios will ever care about offering 8K content and maybe not even then. While people certainly buy 4K TVs because they want to watch 4K content, many others buy them only because that is mostly what is offered now. Last edited by Vilya; 03-23-2020 at 12:08 AM. |

The article refers to screens above 80" as "super large" and I have to say that screens in this size range are impressive. I am still mesmerized by mine and it is just 4K. I will not even consider a Samsung TV while they continue their refusal to support Dolby Vision. A super premium 8K TV should support everything and so should their 4K TVs, IMO. Yeah, I don't wanna get into this again (lol), but reports state that if you move away from the TV, just two inches, it looks like 4K. I'm sure that the bigger the screen, the more benefits, but for me, I'm sticking with 55 inch and so there will be no benefit. They don't even make them in 55 inches.

Unless I hear differently (sitting at the distance I sit - 8 feet), there will be no difference between a 4K and an 8K set (at just 55 inches.) I would be throwing 2 and a half grand down the drain, literally! [But not literally.] |
