Absotruthly. Even when the lines were at their most transparent Connery still managed to make them sound cheeky and light-hearted compared to Moore who was so buttery-smooth that it always sounded a lot more salacious coming from him.

The Bond films over time did not have a consistent tone. They got increasingly campy over time with poor plot development and absurdly bad jokes. Even when the later films used a book's title, it wasn't the book's plot. And they most certainly did not have the same tone as the books with a few exceptions: the early films - Dr. No, From Russia With Love and Goldfinger were close to the books as was OHMSS which I always thought was the best Bond film, if not the most fun. All the others were pretty trashy IMO.

And while the novels' Bond did have women, flashy cars and lived the ritzy lifestyle while on assignment, Fleming thought he should just look average because spies were supposed to easily fit in and disappear. Fleming reportedly wanted Hoagy Carmichael (yes, the songwriter) to play Bond and Carmichael was not exactly good looking (and neither was Fleming).

While the early films had the advantage of Sean Connery, they had very low budgets which was both good and bad. Dr. No was made for $1m ($7.8m in today's dollars). FRWL cost $2m ($15.4m). Goldfinger cost $3m ($23.1m). Thunderball jumped to $9m ($68.22m), but it was probably the worst of those first four. The first Bond film with the equivalent of an over $100m budget was Moonraker $31m ($101.99m). But Quantum had twice the budget of Casino Royale and I think it was an inferior film.

I've actually liked the Craig films quite a bit. Although I thought Quantum was a let down from Casino, I liked it better on second viewing at home. I liked that Bond failed in Skyfall - it better represents the world we actually live in where there are no superheroes and no magical answers, especially in response to terrorism. I realize such movies are supposed to be an escape, but I like some reality in them as well.

I think both Connery and Moore's styles were effective.

I definitely did not like that about Skyfall.

Craig is close to 50 and Im sure he cant do the things he could a few years back so a younger replacement would be a good idea

Skyfall is the highest grossing film in the UK at £102.9 Million.
Will SPECTRE surpass this? Place your bets and how much do you think it will make?

Skyfall is the 12th highest grossing film world wide at $1,108,561,013

In the Bulgarian subtitles of Quantum of Solace, the name Quantum was translated as SPECTRE, with the title changed to Spectre of Solace

Haha, it's like the Swedish translations. Dr. No was translated to "Agent 007 with a license to kill" in Swedish, and when License to Kill with Dalton later was released, they tranlated the title to roughly "Time for Revenge"

I'm predicting SPECTRE will make something around the £90m mark and world wide just under that probably something like $900m. Is there even a theme song released for it yet?

Skyfall became so popular because the general public loved that theme song and sometimes a good Bond theme song can be enough to put a few more bums on seats who don't usually do the cinema.

The song has not been released yet. Not even the artist. But Mendes said "soon"....

Personally, I hated the Skyfall theme song. Hoping for something better.

I haven't been a huge fan of the Craig era Bond themes, but Skyfall was possibly the best of the bunch closely followed by the theme from Casino Royale. The Skyfall song sounded like a proper Bond song, or at least as close to the classics as it could get without going full-Bassey.

Yeah it did sound more in tune with the proper Bond themes, I just didn't like it much, not a fan of Adele, good singer just don't like her music.

I like Adele, she's got a great voice. Very pretty too but that's irrelevant. Rumour is Sam Smith (I think that's his name, I'm not sure) is doing the Spectre theme. I hope it's something like Tom Jones' belter of a performance from Thunderball, lol, now that's a great Bond theme sung by a male.

Let's not forget Skyfall also got a mega boost from being the anniversary movie as well as the year of the Olympics, with Craig doing a Bond Olympics tie in promo.

I'm hoping they replace him. I really like him in the role (might be my second favorite Bond, alongside Roger Moore) but it's time. Moore got away with it because he looked younger than he was. The opposite is certainly true for Craig. He looked 50 in Skyfall, and he looks over 50 now in Spectre. I like a veteran Bond, though, so I'm okay with it. I'm just hoping this is the last one. There's a line between "veteran" and "grandpa" and Craig is currently toeing that line.

I don't like how convoluted his backstory has become. Are Bond's parents going to turn out to still be alive and masterminding a criminal organization in the next movie?

He's still contracted for one more film.

that guy in the Mission Impossible movies

in all seriousness, five for Craig is a good number. kinda ready for a new actor to come along and maybe do a more formulaic Bond movie for a change. Craig and his films have been mostly phenomenal but five movies of reinventing the character is more than enough.

lol - I "was" gonna mention him (53 I think now) - but yea, that one was kind of an obvious one that I figured most people already knew about.

as for DC, $$$$$$ could play a big role in whether he wants to do more (than the last one under his contract).
