Basically in a nutshell, for those of us with only Region A players (I know, I know get a region free player), Panasonics are able to bypass region restrictions on many discs by simply hitting stop when you see the Region Lock screen, and then hitting top menu (sometimes once, sometimes a few times). It's not fool proof (I had an Australian disc that didn't work at all a couple of weeks ago), but I would say you can bypass about 75% of the discs in this manner.

So, before I buy 4 or 5 discs, I was just curious as they say . I'll take a chance on 1 or 2, but a big order I'm a little more hesitant.

You pretty much answered your own question when looking at that compatibility thread you posted.. Signal 1 is one of the top few labels I personally wouldn't risk it as it looks to currently be tallied as 15 releases haven't worked while 0 have been reported to work. This label along with Third Window and older 88 Films releases are hard passes for me as far as blind buys go with so many releases already not working.

Labels like Second Sight, Arrow, Indicator, Eureka, Radiance etc. all seem to have a high success rate so it's a bit easier take a gamble with those.

YMMV, but here's how I'd look at it:

I can always buy a region free player. I can't always conjure up a sale when I want to, on titles I'm interested in. I'd buy the titles (assuming I really wanted them and the price was attractive) with the only downside that I -might- have to spend a little to get a region free player. Maybe. If the pany doesn't play.

A region free player is something you should have anyway... too many good releases not to.

Yeah, I can see that being the case for a lot of people.

For me, I can easily live without anything from the few labels that don't have a high success rate and pretty much everything I want has been playable on the 820 or has a region A version. So getting a completely new extra player is simply a waste of space and $$$ going into 2024 and beyond in my case. There is no real universal right or wrong answer though!

I've ordered all 14 titles a couple months ago and 9 came with slips and 5 did not.

Got slips with these entries: 005,006,007,009,010,011,012,013,014.

So mainly later titles. I'm also selling the slips as I'm not a slip collector
