And I disagree with that statement that Almodóvar's stories are constantly dominated by straight female characters. I think he has lots of main characters in that demographic, but lots who are not as well.

My only gripe about Morbid Angel is they keeps writing about occult stuff, mostly blasphemous. I’d rather they make love songs.

Lol. Seriously, are we still discussing that nothing burger post?

Do you have a problem with songs about love of the occult?

Songs and movies. Why couldn't Rosemary just have her baby with her nice husband? That's my only gripe about that movie.

Altars of Madness and Covenant are flawless albums. Any attempt to disparage either one is pure blasphemy.

Blessed Are the Sick was always my favorite, but I can't say no to the thrashy elements of Abominations of Desolation.

I don't think this is true. All of the $19.99 items are the same price at Walmart.com.

It is true. You can see for yourself when the price drops happened. It clearly lines up with B&N's sales. I can also attest to having several $19.99 titles saved in my cart since the July 2021 sale and they haven't gone up since.

As you can see, all of these, and others dropped with the July 2021 sale

[Show spoiler]

And then the bulk of the rest dropped with the November 2021 sale

[Show spoiler]

I see one title on that page, Everlasting Moments, that just dropped to $19.94, which is a WM PM (although they actually have it for $19.89), but certainly not all of these.

Even if Criterion don't do their own edition, the Sony blu ray is really good IMO.
I keep thinking that an ultimate Almovodar box is coming. Supposedly they have plans to release all of his films. Perhaps a set like the Fellini collection is in the works. It has been 2 years since they released All About My Mother. Seems like a long time in between titles if they have the whole library licensed.

And 'All About My Mother' was released 3 years after they put out 'Women On The Verge of a Nervous Breakdown'. They're certainly not rushing to get his works out on their label if they have all the rights. There were really good Sony blurays available and maybe they'd rather just wait until most of those are out of print?

I don't know how well their mega box sets are performing for them compared to individual releases. Did that Wong Kar Wai one sell well? Personally, I'd rather have individual releases. I already own most of the Sony releases of Almodóvar's films and am satisfied with those discs. The only one I want in HD that I don't already own is 'Talk To Her'.

It'd be nice if they gave people the choice by offering both box sets and individual releases. I get that with a series of films, like 'Zatoichi', that people will likely want the whole series. But when it comes to the works of a filmmaker, maybe there's lots of people who want to pick and choose which films they buy?

If one takes the Bergman box as an example, then I think their approach is that they at least offer the prominent films as individual releases or as mini-sets (like the Bergman Trilogy). I'm sure they don't expect anyone outside a core fanbase to continuously re-buy the same movies for incremental improvements.

I randomly checked about a dozen of the above 19.99 titles and each one is the same price at Walmart.com. If you are only relying on the dates, these titles must have dropped at Walmart on the same dates. The only reason these titles are on sale is because Walmart has them on sale.

It's not some coincidence that WM's prices also dropped during July and November too. They were either matching B&N themselves, or matched Amazon matching B&N. I wouldn't even be surprised if the fact that both are still the same price at WM and Amazon because each has an algorithm checking to see who raises their price, and neither does so they both stay the same. Either way, as stated, it is still originally based off PM'ing B&N's sales. The timing of the drops clearly confirm this. They are actually the ones that start them, and everyone else just follows.

Am I the only one waiting with baited breath for the 4K release of A Ship to India?

I just heard from a reliable source that Criterion is going to release “Rochelle, Rochelle” on 4K UHD. What a great film. A young girl's strange, erotic journey from Milan to Minsk.

Amazing news. I was lucky to see the Broadway musical of it with Bette Midler.
