Are they really useful though? I think it’s just good marketing and typical sheep behaviour from the masses.

It can tell you the weather. So can a quick glance out of the window. So can your phone which you carry everywhere.

It can remind you of appointments. So can your phone, Apple Watch.

It can play a song on demand. So can your Spotify account through the device of your choice.

It can make a shopping list. So can I.

It can give you the latest news. So can my phone, tv, laptop, computer, watch.

I am not going to debate this, but I have never agreed that vinyl sounds better. It didn't then and it doesn't now and I have spoken and that is that, fini, the end.
Speaking of 3D, I received 3D Rarities 2 though the post today. It features 40-50 stunning 3D stills as well as some great shorts and a full feature film. Remember those View-master pictures? Like those but on a large screen. Stunning.

I will place it on my wishlist if I haven't already. This month's toy budget has been spent.

I just added it and it is not released here until April 7th.

It came from the USA. I ordered via Flicker Alley so they must be sending out way quicker than Amazon?

Everyone is quicker than Amazon right now, but good to know. Toy budget is still spent, though.

I did not buy the first set because I already have so much of what is on it on other 3D releases, but I suppose I should for the little bit that I do not have.

Oh, well, getting both together should be fun.

With that it is time to go watch something; I'd ask for suggestions, but you always give me the same answer.

I don't use it for any of those things, which are novelties. I use it to play music, set a timer to rest or set an alarm. That's it!

I think you will love TP. It’s also vastly different from the original two series. Can’t wait to read your views of it. It gave my surround system a fantastic workout.

Oh, and nothing can prepare you for episode 8.

Go on, binge it!

This merits a brief delurk...

Voice control + home automation = all kinds of awesome.

Are there other apps and devices that allow one to control a thermostat or turn various lights on or off or set schedules for all that stuff? Sure. But being able to do stuff like that with voice control is pretty freaking cool.

I'm still just dipping my toes in home automation but it's really convenient. I used to use X10 (which was pretty cool too) to control accent lights and the like but wifi outlets and bulbs are very cool and being able to control/dim/change colors with voice commands makes it even cooler.

And if that means some tech support goofs in Bangladesh get to laugh at the stupid shit I say out loud when I think I'm alone, meh, I'm fine with that.

It’s all primitive stuff, smart glasses with a Augmented personal assistant Avatar is where the real excitement will be.

There is a lot of X10 in my house, most of it is automated via a CM11A computer interface. Have 5 House codes in use, have 13 unit codes in use in the home theater and controlled by a programmable remote (URC MX-980) via IR543 IR to X10 interface. Also have 1 or more X10 RF remotes with every unit/macro labeled.

The problem I have with Alexa or Google is remembering how to call all the Routines that I have programed into them.

Anyone else find it interesting that Sony has finally released Fright Night? Just hope it is not region locked to A only in case someone wants to import from the US.

Frozen 2. "The Disney sequel has already recorded the second-biggest digital debut of all time in the UK with 218,700 digital downloads in its first week, behind Avengers: Endgame's 335,400 digital downloads."

Damn. It's on Disney+ in July and disc from 30th March.

This one has been available overseas since 2017 and it is region free; it is also about half the price. I own this one myself.

Digital HD is a hit based business same as Blu-ray. Frozen 2 will do well across the board.

Sounds like a lot of work and expense just to spare yourself from having to flip the light switch yourself.

Just get a Clapper:

In the home theater that would be 13 light switches . One button push and many devices (lights, rope lights, amps, display boxes, neons, etc.) turn On or Off. Lights are on X10 soft start dimmers so they fade up or down.

Whatever makes you happy; it is all good.

My system is nowhere near as elaborate as yours, so I just have not felt any need, or desire, to use home automation toys.

Anyone eavesdropping on me deserves what they get; having to listen to me talk stupid cutesy sh*t to my cat would serve them right.

My description would be different, I'm still just a electronics oriented kid walking around in crusty old body that has had many years to assemble a fair collection of hardware. On a recent doctor's visit for the better half the attending PA referred to us as people of your vintage.
