Re-watch the first rebuild movie, the ocean is red,it turned that color in EoE. Shinji gets one more chance to not F it up. Which he ends up doing anyway.

Just cause you think it is doesn't make it true.

Tim Lyu from Crunchyroll came to the same conclusion in his video on Eva

So. Why should I care what he thinks either. You can think that way or think it is a good theory but it is just your opinion. The only person that can state that rebuild is a sequel is the director and he has not. Anyways. Don't care to argue about it cause it is a stupid argument so believe what you want.

Hate to burst your bubble, but Hideki Anno himself said that the Rebuild films are not in any way shape or form related to the original NGE series. The Rebuild films are re-telling based on the NGE series' source material.

Anno redid Neon Genesis Evangelion because he wasn't satisfied with limited budget he had at the time with the original series and fans of the original were still... unsatisfied with how it ended.

Once his absurdly high production budget was greenlit, Anno redid Evangelion in the form of his "Rebuild" films.

They are not sequels. At all.

It is such a bummer we were so close to 4.0 just for it to be delayed again because of this pandemic. Can't wait to see it.

I'm fine with it, as long as we know it's coming. At one point, it kinda seemed like it might not even be happening.

Maybe the red sea is a meta-commentary by Anno that this is his and Shinji's second try at not ****ing it all up? (Not a literal continuation of the previous timeline)

Well he did post some of the death threats a few of his fans hurled at him (though he did post the positive comments, too).

I love the Rebuild movies. I don't think they're a troll at all,
[Show spoiler]they're clearly a sequel.
Said it time and time again! But we'll kno for sure when 4.0 finally comes out.

Yeah, I believe Anno fell into another depression right after completing Eva 3.0 and had no interest in doing the next one. It wasn't until Toho approached him about working on Shin Godzilla (which he initially refused to do too) that he ultimately relented. I think the challenge to make a film that matched up to the original and it's success helped boost Anno back into mental shape to complete Eva 4.0

I would like to believe this but the rebuild movies beside 2.22 aren't particularly "high budget" (or if they are, they're aren't particularly special animation-wise). The 4.0 trailer showed some fairly ugly 3DCG (which they have hopefully improved for the theatrical release…)
People have reported many times that, if you see Eva everywhere in Japan, it's not only because it's popular but mostly because Khara will license the characters for any kind of product and commercials because they don't have that much margin, afaik (as they're mostly self-funding it?). Klockworx and NTV which are like the only two other companies involved in the Rebuild project only seem to handle distribution & international sales for Khara?

Budget means nothing with regards to animation quality when referring to anime. It's all about the talent and the scheduling.

Now, the Rebuild films are very well animated, and in terms of actual animation (as in movement), they are better and more consistent than the TV series, yet I feel the look of them (as in the color design, compositing, and digital processing) is way worse than the original series. However that is my own opinion. The Rebuild films are certainly well animated, though I feel they cannot compare to the best moments of the TV series and End of Evangelion.

As I understand it, this how the movies breakdown:

Evangelion 1.11: What NGE should have been
Evangelion 2.22: What fans wanted NGE to be
Evangelion 3.33: What NGE actually is, according to Anno
Evangelion 3.0+1: What NGE is to the world

I want to be optimistic the 4th movie will tie things up nicely. But there's no denying a large amount of time has passed between these movies. Doesn't really bode well when you think about. I mean who's the target audience at this point?

Maybe it'll be a big deal in Japan, but I can't see there being much fanfare internationally.

Well its only been a year since the series was added to Netflix. I'm sure that brought new fans onboard, like myself.

The fans? Not to be snippy but like, I don't understand the point of such a question. I'm sure there are people who "don't like" Eva anymore but that's not the fanbase obviously. lol

I have to disagree with that statement. The passage of time for anime is kinda meaningless. Unlike Hollywood, where general audiences tend to forget about a franchise if they aren't pumped out regularly, anime thrives solely because of its fans. Anime is and will always be a niche. Personally speaking, I've been with the Rebuild films since the beginning. I don't know what people are expecting with Part 4, but all I know is it's gonna be something interesting.

I'm just curious how Anno is going to end it all, after part 3 we know it's a not going to be anywhere near the same as the original. Will it be as devisive as the original, or a big spectacle like EoE ? Just the fact that we don't know makes it for me at least highly anticipated.
