But just like someone else mentioned his parents skulls weren't a great deal bigger than his. There must be something behind his enormous size.

Regarding the size of Kong. I believe although his parents were of an age to have him, they too were still young themselves relative to their full growth potential and they were killed before they could reach it but Kong managed to beat the Skull Crawlers and remain unchallenged the rest of the time and really managed to grow to his full potential size which basically puts him on par with Godzilla.

That's the angle i feel the movies going for to carry on from Skull Island. Kong was literally described as still being a "baby" yet that damn tall and strong.
