It’s a damn shame this is only the 3rd fox catalog 4k title that’s Disney has put out. I think just Home alone and speed and now this. Disney buying fox was the darkest day in film history.

And yet how many catalogue UHDs had Fox released in, say, 2019? I'll save you looking it up: ONE. Which was for Alien. (The Bonds don't count as they were released by Fox *for* MGM as they were simply their video distributor at that time.) Whether it was them scaling everything back ahead of the buyout we don't know - though they certainly kept on doing 4K HDR remasters throughout that time - but their commitment to catalog UHD disc started to waiver regardless. Heck, to disc in general as they missed a load of anniversary remasters/cash-ins on regular Blu during those last few years too.

The worst thing about the Disnee buyout IMO isn't so much for lamenting what Fox would/wouldn't have released on disc but that it's closed off the licensing avenue, the indies would've been all over that back catalogue even if Fox had cooled on the idea of physical UHD disc.

It’s confusing too. I could understand them opening the floodgates, and I could understand them pulling back completely. But this just seems so random. Maybe they are planning more and are for some reason or another off to a slow start.

They put out the old X-men movies, the predator movies and die hard off the top of my head unless you mean just 2019.

I think it’s more Disney hates physical and wants it to die so they can go all digital.

Yes, just 2019. 2018 had those others as you say - a whole seven movies! - but six of those were regulation cash-ins on new movies being released, it's just dumb ****ing luck that each movie had an old trilogy to exploit.

Die Hard was for the 40th anniversary but even there the rot had set in, as why the hell didn't they release all the Die Hards along with it? I mean, they'd literally just done it for Predator and X-Men. It's even sadder if you tot them up across 2018 and 2019, eight catalog UHDs in two years is just diabolical.

Well all the other die hard movies are in 4k hdr on streaming so my bet was they were going to release them later on but then Disney thing happen.

One can only hope. Die Hard with a Vengeance is definitely one of my major wants on 4K but I don't have any hopes of getting it

Speak for yourself as I haven’t been to a theater since Batman begins was released. I always hated going to the theater so that’s why the last time I went was nearly 20 years ago.

Man look up theaters near you with super cushiony recliner seats or just hit the nearest IMAX. That's crazy not going to a Cinema in 20 years. Unless you have a crazy good home theater I don't really understand the point. Granted there's been a lot of so-so releases but support something or someone you like Directors/Actors/Editors/Cinematography/Writing or else you can't really complain. You have to do something positive.

I support them buying it on home video. I hate theaters so no thanks.

I remember going to Batman Begins way back when and it was so hot on that summer day in June and the theatre was packed, it was all making me feel trapped and claustrophobic, so I decided to leave part way through while my friends stayed. I am with you, not a fan of the theatre in general even though I will go occasionally with family. Just not my thing and much prefer the comforts of home even if it means waiting.

I also find it easier to justify buying discs knowing I didn't pay to see it in theatre.

Same because you really are trapped because you can’t take a break without missing part of the movie. It’s hard for me setting there for hours.

Absolutely. There's a feeling of dread that comes up for me when I sit down in the theatre knowing I'm committed for hours. Something as long as say 3 hours would be a hard no flat out.

We mostly just go to theaters for the kids now, and I can live with it because they're usually only 80-100 minutes and I don't care about missing parts for breaks. But then I guess that's not really applicable to the conversation of wanting to be there for the movie you're watching.

These comments are depressing. A movie is meant to be watched in a theater. Whatever. Can't win.

That’s a pretty stupid thing to say. You expect people to go to a theater to watch every movie?

I think it's a different strokes sort of thing. I also don't like going to concerts or sports events for the same reason. Too many people and stuck where you are for the full duration. And to your point, that's why I invested in a bit of a home theatre as I do agree only ever watching on a tv isn't ideal.
