You see, I'm just pointing out observations that I find bewildering. It boils down to people joining a hobby, but for the incorrect reasons. When 4K/HDR is not only 'advertised', but also endorsed by filmmakers and DOPs, as bringing consumers the content to their own homes, but still in a manner in which it's supposed to be seen/heard, why would anyone want to deviate from that?

Again, bewildering.
There is no such thing as 'joining a hobby, but for incorrect reasons', unless it is immoral or causes serious financial or bodily harm. None of which have happened to me while watching movies. I like watching movies, I happen to also like watching movies in my home. When watching said movies in my home I like them to be as clear as possible, period.

Watched Predator 4k last night on LG OLED... I thought it looked awesome. DVD was crap, BluRay was crap, 4K BluRay is amazing.

I saw a 70mm blow up and a 35mm print both in the last 5 years.

Does that make sense somehow?

I absolutely don't want to get into a debate about grain and preservation or the original intended presentation and blah blah blah. Just my opinion that's all. Still excited to get this on Tuesday!

You can achieve all those things by adjusting your tv and player settings.

Turn the sharpness down and filter the shit out of it using all the different de-noising settings.

The rest of us shouldn't have to put up with it though just because YOU like it that way.

I played around with them, they don't make any difference. Motion settings make a noticeable difference but introduce awful artifacts.

First saw this film sometime in the late 80's/early 90's and I'm disappointed to say this release looks nothing like it did back then...it doesn't even stop an hour in to break for the 10 o clock news!!!

Much like they did with Die Hard, Fox has delivered an action classic the way a lot of us have always hoped to see it.
Sure, some folks can look at caps and say bah there ain't much more detail, just more grain...much like people grumbled about the limited improvements they noted with Die Hard caps...fair enough.
But those who saw decent to sizable improvements with the UHD presentation of John McClane's Christmas Caper, should be equally rewarded here--even more so in my opinion.

Again you get a lovely textured, filmic image with plenty of detail to go around--really shows off the great depth in some of the photography.
Again like Die hard, color and highlight detail is great... the attack of the gorilla's camp looks especially good, explosions and muzzle flairs are robust and perfectly rendered.
The rougher, darker jungle scenes are what they are and look better here than I've ever seen them...hell, I even thought that zoomed in Waterfall dive looked passable here.

Many of us watched the Die Hard release and immediately wished and hoped that Fox might give Predator similar respectful treatment,well...they've only bloody gone and done it, those Foxy little devils.

Whats that? Alien you say? Ok, go on then.

I hope Fox do all four of the original Alien films some point soon.

Well Alien is supposedly coming out year so hopefully the others won't be far behind.

I was wondering... Would they be able to use HDR to re-create the original silver retention look of Alien Resurrection or is it not possible?

Tomorrow night is the night. I've avoided looking at any screenshots so I can enjoy it with fresh, virgin eyes. Also, i'm going to crank this up so f***ing loud - Silvestri's score is one of my all time favourites.

Looks like I’m going to pick this up based on early word and the single screenshot of Arnie I looked at. That lovely tornado of grain brought a tear to my eye. Thank god Fox got this out before Disney bought them and made the audio more family friendly haha. Cause when I think of a mini gun ripping apart a forest, I think of the importance of family.

If I can get as close as possible to watching an actual pristine 35mm print on my HT, then I'm happy, as far as catalog titles go. The only real digitally shot films I like, could almost pass for film. (i.e., Rogue One, BR 2049,Prometheus, among others.)with the sole exception of Session 9, which to me looks almost like video, but I love the movie. To me, some 4K discs succeed quite admirably in replicating the theater experience for HT. I saw Predator on release, but I'm sure as hell not gonna pretend I even remotely have a clue what it looked like then. I just know I surely don't want the 4K disc to look anything like the uhe.
