My acoustic panels are next, in my list. ...So the Venere center doesn't fit in the space of my old HTM62. But I devised a rather elegant solution... |

I'm on the same path as you!!!!! I sold my amp and my center ch. I have Martin Logan Theos on the way. I decided to go with Crown pro amps, like the ones dh's use. Pretty exciting. Like you it's sad to see the old stuff go.

Everything is up and assembled. Pictures tomorrow.
The only unfortunate casualty, my Harmony One remote, which suffered an accident and has a cracked screen. :: plays taps:: Now, I'm going to go back downstairs and meld w/ the system. |

Alright, so!
ASSEMBLY TIME! After purchasing my speakers, I came to the conclusion that the Sonus Faber center did NOT fit in the space I had for the B&W HTM62. At all. Not even a snug fit. So what does a young architect do? Begin thinking of alternatives. The easy ones were stupid. One was to get a stand and put it in front of the TV stand. Nope. Two was to put it on top of the TV stand, and create something to go over the SF for the Pioneer to sit on. Plausible, but tacky looking. No, a more radical solution was needed. ================================ So last week I began thinking of possibilities. Clearly the SF center had to sit on top of the TV stand. Which meant the TV had to go somewhere else. Couldn't relocate the HT, and couldn't wall mount it. Which left me with one alternative. It needed to have a stand alone mount. I found one: ![]() Alright, well then what? I wasn't getting rid of the Prism TV stand I have, it's a rare and unique stand that fits right in with the decor. I had to design a way to make the two units interact. So, simple. You sit the Prism on top of the mount. But you'd need to raise it. So, getting the AutoCAD drawings from the manufacturer, I began to design a way to have the Prism sit on it by elevating the perimeter of the TV stand. I came up with this: [Show spoiler] Just needed to have a thickness of around 1.25" to accomodate the elevation of the floor base of the Peerless stand. Last edited by JJ; 02-10-2013 at 03:56 AM. |

I considered a bunch of different materials, but for something that was going to be nigh visible, I decided to just use two sheets of 3/4" MDF, glued and cut on top of each other. I had considered plywood and mixing materials, but at the end, decided MDF was probably my best bet. It wasn't going to be supporting enough weight to crush it or dent it anyway.
So, MDF. ![]() Then, we mark to the right size. ![]() Glue and clamp. ![]() Cut - which I didnt take any pictures of for some reason, since I was cutting. Then, paint. I didn't bother with anything but the perimeter since it wasn't going to be visible anyway. ![]() After it's been painted, I put thin felt pads at the underside's perimeter and a few center points to help move the stand: ![]() And then it's complete! ![]() Tomorrow, I'll continue...I'm going to go enjoy the Veneres a bit. |
