Caught up on some 4Ks including Doctor Sleep, Perdito Durango, and Day of the Beast.

Since this place is the only "social media" I do, missed you folks. It just wasnt the same without you...
Congrats on your magnificent haul philsfan!

I watched Planes: Fire and Rescue 3D last night. An improvement on the first, I thought, with decent 3D. Unlike the first, however, the aspect ratio is 2.40:1 so not screen-filling. I still think it's (just) the better 3D experience of the two overall.

I am pleased to have this in my collection. Whether it was worth the £60-odd quid I paid for the Indian disc is debatable but I don't regret the purchase. In hindsight, I could have saved myself (quite) a few bob had I ordered it from Amazon.in at the same time as I bought The Finest Hours 3D (using Shoppre.com parcel forwarders). Amazon.in still have the Planes 1 and 2 3D double pack for around £18. Never mind, hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Hi chrisp

Consider yourself fortunate. That single film edition on ebay went for 98 US which is about 70 pounds.

Unfortunately, the copy of zambezia I ordered was a DVD anaglyph copy. I wrote back and asked for return instructions, however, since this came from Germany it might cost me almost as much to send it back. If not worth it, I'll be out $14. Its a region 2.

Found the Asian Blu-ray 3D edition at DDD house for about the same price including shipping and placed my order. If anyone is interested, it goes under the title Adventures in Zambezia.

Did give the anaglythic version a try for a few minutes. The 3D had a bit of popout with mild depth and nice separation between characters There was only a small amount of shimmering but the color was not strong. While pleasing for anaglythic, one could sense the stereoscopic version would be overall more dramatic.

Update: Silly me. The vendor who sold me Zambezia does not reside in Berlin, Germany. He is in West Berlin, New jersey lol

Just received Julia X from a UK seller on Amazon. Disc had come loose and I could hear it really flying around in the case before I even opened the package. Miraculously, it survived the trip overseas without any noticeable scratches!

Watched Son of Bigfoot last night. Another fine release from nWave. Story was ok but the 3D effects were great and I enjoyed the music. Still need to get the sequel but been waiting to find it available along with Corgi from a Dutch vendor that can ship to the States.

As you will find out Julia’s tough, she can survive anything! Blu-rays are pretty tough, not to be confused with 4K discs which freeze if you breathe on them wrong.

In my experience 3D BluRays tend to be more susceptible to scratches than standard BluRays. I don't mean they are more likely to get scratched in the first place but that (in my experience) they are more likely to display errors if they do get scratched. My own (non-technical) explanation for this is that they have to store more info (left eye/right eye) than a standard 2D BluRay and therefore there is more data that a scratch could potentially affect. Could just be my player. I take great care of my discs but buy a lot of pre-owned BluRays and you never know what condition they'll be in (or they could get scratched in transit etc.).

I've also had discs that look like someone has used them to skate around in on a gravel path but which play perfectly, and discs which look pristine but which nevertheless freeze up.

I saw this on DDD House and kind of regret not getting it on my last bulk order, given the low price. Will be interested to hear your thoughts.

Last night I watched Lost Place, a German horror film about a group of geocachers that end up stumbling across a site previously used for military experiments.

I really enjoyed this a lot more than I was expecting to, although there is a bit of a silly moment at the end (
[Show spoiler]what was going on with those (metal?) bugs that appear to come from nowhere when the main character is trying to shut down the transmitter??
).

The 3D is native and, whilst pretty much devoid of pop-outs, there is good depth throughout the majority of the film.

There is even a 20 minute bonus feature in 3D including interviews with the filmmakers and some information about 3D filmmaking in general. It is described as "episode 1" of a 3D magazine but I can't see that they ever made an episode 2.

I recommend this one (but I admit my low expectations helped).

The Italian edition can be gotten quite cheap: https://www.amazon.co.uk/B2_0176879-...9701525&sr=8-1

I’m always amazed by the underground 3D movies people here find. I’m just starting my collection and thus I’m still gathering the more standardized stuff.

I have the asian one. From what I recall it was enjoyable with good animation and 3D.

Watched The Great Gatsby (2013) last night. WOW! Now, I'm not saying that this is a great movie, or a great telling of the classic story. All the over-the-top flash really gets in the way of the plot, especially in the first half ... but the 3D was fantastic. The opening sequence (where it goes from black and white newsreel type footage into the modern credits and the image stretches back farther and farther) is jaw-dropping. I was shaking my head for the first hour at the visuals.

Happily, in the second half, the movie settles down and becomes more story driven, and the ending was strong and emotional. Still, I would recommend this more as eye-candy than as a good version of Gatsby, but on that visual level, this is a fantastic movie.
