Sometimes checking out other speakers makes you appreciate what you got even more! I still like to listen to whatever I can whenever I get a chance.
I don't have the SACD, just the CD, rded burnt it for me and mailed me some CDs. She is a great singer, my wife is like, OK, your tastes are all over the place now-a-days.

Yes, I think that is what is happening to some degree. I would love to buy Dynaudios, Focals or Totems, but that isn't going to happen anytime soon. When I compared my speakers to those ones I would say I'm about 70-80% of what they are, and I cannot find any faults in those speakers. When I have compared mine to Paradigm, PSB, MA, and other speakers in the sub $1k market, I am right there with them in terms of detail and sound stage presence. Each sounds different, but I like the 2-way design with fewer crossover getting in the way and the linear design as well... I know there are as much dynamics, but we all like something different.

OOpss, lost internet connection for a while there. My Infinity center will definitely need to be changed out in the future. It will work for a while, but they do sound different from the Energy's for sure.
I'm going to try to upload a picture of my set up again. I lost connection mid stream.

Steve,

Those are amazing reviews of both speakers, when I will ear the Excite I'll decide wheter I go Totem or Dyns but I feel I would be pleased with both, as I mentionned, you pointed out the same thing as the Staff will sound great with anything yes in some case for very specific type of music the Arro will perform better but all in all the Staff is the most versatile of the family and Totem states that on their website.

I really need to take an appointment and go on the East end of the city but it's like 35 miles away from my place since I live in the west suburb of Montreal.

I will do so when I get close of buying. I guess it will be a though choice but if it's so hard to decide I will pull the trigger on the Sttaf since they are a local product in my case.

Unfotunatally it's not possibile for me to do a side by side comparaison.

Anyways I love reading your reviews they are always usefull and I really liked the CF the first time I heard them as stated in my first review on them and I love them more and more I even listened to them again tonight but I really want to step it up.

Totem speakers using Dynaudio drivers are the Model One Signature, Mani a bookshelf that goes as low as 29 hz using 2 Dynaudio woofers sitting behing each other, The One, an improved aniversary edition of Model One and the Wind (2 mid bass drivers). All of those drivers are modifed to Totem's specs.

I know the the Forest seems too also but they are not Dyns drivers. You will notice the 12screws driver on it.

Miker i'm so happy we were able to help you out and reassure you on the sound of the RC-10 having heard this puppy in multiple occasions was not so hard to comment on those for me. Arrt knew exactly what he was talking about and I'm sure reading trugh the thread you found some happy customers, Deaddog and Bluray comes to my mind.

I think everyone here loves their speakers and Energy offers tremendous value.

Now Callas you really got to hear the RC

You guys were such a big help to me. There are so many speakers out there and it's hard when you can't hear them all.

I'm listening to Beethoven's Piano Concertos Nos. 1 & 4 now and they sound wonderful.

I'm going to try uploading a photo to my gallery tomorrow at work. Every time I tried from home I kept loosing the connection.

Oliver, the true comparison of the Staffs to a Dynaudio speaker would be the Focus 140 to the Staff. The speakers are much more comparable in terms of price, I think you may find the Focus more on the warm side of neutral also, just like the Staffs. Also the Focus are less linear, and the Staffs aren't exactly linear either, so I think that would be a better comparison to make. However the mid-range on the Dyns was not even fully warmed up yet, and it was still as nice as the Staffs... So I will be intrigued to go back and here them side by side again... plus I want to ask the guy to bring in the Focus speakers so I can compare them too.

Callas, I took a quick photo last night of my set up and posted to my gallery this morning. I'll take better pictures later. I have my RC-10's sitting on top of my old Yamaha's now, but will be getting stands for them later. I also need to replace that old wire. The wire is as old as the Yamaha's so I'm sure they could use changing, which will probably help them sound even better.

I played them for about 7 hrs yesterday, and I noticed about 6 hrs into it, the bass seemed to get a little bit more pronounced. I was playing some Beethoven piano concerto music and the lower frequencies came through nicely. I turned my sub on, and adjusted the Frequency until my ear detected that RC-10 and sub were playing around the same frequency and I noticed them start to blend in around 60 Hz or so. I'm sure they will improve more as I play them.

crossover about 60 to 70 hz should be good for those speakers. You may adjust it again later once you have them fully broke in.

They look so beautiful don't they? I always liked the look of the RC series.

Yeah, as they break in the woofers loosen up some and the detail and bass should improve....

Yes, they do look really nice. I keep the grills off as I've noticed they tend to sound slightly better with them off.

Yes, i noticed in the beginning that it match up around 70 Hz, but then it started to change a bit, and the RC-10's seemed to get just a little bit lower as they played a while. I do believe they have reached their max limit. I don't think they will get any lower for this speaker, which is fine, after all that is what the sub is for.

Specs has them at a starting Freq response from 50 Hz, and a usable bass response of 43Hz, whatever that means. But I don't think they will reach down that far.

yes, their frequency limit is about 50 hz, with a low to 43, but I would bet you wont notice it that low, plus the linear design will not sound wall rattling thumping.... it should sound tight and impactful, but not rap music crazy.

Yes, good description. I did notice some nice bass response while watching some tv with them. One thing I notice with these that I never really noticed before with my Yamaha's, is how different each tv station sounds. It's weird, but they do vary a lot in sound between stations.
I have a switch on my receiver called "selective tone" which when turned on pushes the highs and lows a bit more. It used to sound quite nice on my Yamaha's, but on the Energy's I think it actually sounds better with that turned off for some reason.
I did really love my Yamaha's. The highs were nice without being harsh sounding. The highs on the Energy's sound nice as well, it's just that they are more balanced with the mids and lows. It is different, but I like it.

Oh, and you can add my name to the energy owners list of you want.

Added... you're now official

The Energys will give you a much truer sound, you will know when your being lied to.... Im sure you have noticed that the music you were listening too sounded different?

Do an A/B switch, I am sure you will see a difference.

Oh I do notice the difference without having to switch. After all the years of listening to my old speakers, the new ones definitely show a much truer sound. It's interesting, but I was watching a scene from a movie and the actor was walking down a dirt road. You could literally hear the crunch of the dirt under his feet. I never heard that before.

1900 for the Sttaf in the US wow I was under the impression they were like 1600$, What color were they in Mahagony or Black?

Cherry and Maple are more expensive by a couple hundreds of $$$ and the Black and Mahagony here are 1800$.

Don't forget a great pair of stands also for the bookshelves

I really want to audition the Excite X16 the Focus 140 and why not give the 110 a try.

I will do so when i'm close to buy.

$1600/pair for the RC-70s isn't the greatest price, they were $1000/pair last summer when the cherry and rosenut finishes were being closed out. Unless you found a better price than I did. The RC LCR still hasn't dropped in price either. At it's new price, an RC-30 is half the price of the LCR.

no its not great, but the fact that some of the black is now on sale is a telling sign that what the guy at Energy told me about looking for changes to occur between August and January, tells me there may in fact be a new release of the RCs showing up in the next couple of months. Remember also BigAl said the RCs basically all sold out all over Canada and you cannot find the RC-30s or 50s anymore....

I know they are about to release the Veritas speakers again, so there may be a few updates and changes coming our way.....

My Energy dealer was telling me that they've heard rumblings of a revamped RC series, but nothing concrete so far. It's pretty safe to say something new is coming (hopefully with the Veritas line as well), the only question is when.

Slightly off topic, but I listened to a pair of Jamo C 603s and C 803s the other day. I jotted down some notes as I was listening, but have yet to type a response in the Jamo Speakers Thread. Hopefully I can put it up by the end of the day.

Justin
