Feels like I haven't posted here in a while

Bought quiet abit from Amazon including the Amazing Spider-Man CE ($39.99). Received Then Muppets Christmas Carol CE and Jurassic Park UK Tin Set. The packaging for JP was very good; a box inside a box with a ton of bubble wrap and foam (been a while since I ordered from the UK but I know they package well), unfortunately there's a very noticeable dent on the front which looks very ugly so I had a chat and they agreed to send to another one. I keep telling them I can return the one I sent but they want me to keep to and suggested charity. Also received my Sanity order; Blazing Saddles, the 6th Day, A Few Good Men.

Never seen Blazing Saddles before but love Mel Brooks so it was a good laugh to watch late at night. Picture quality was decent for this release but a lot of grain and artefacts were present on long distance shots which made it look tacky but close ups were fairly detailed.

The 6th Day is a favourite of mine and I always watch it when I'm in the mood. On Blu-ray it looks even better and very detailed with just a few scenes where grain took over and black levels dropped from the inky levels. Sound was well done as well, especially for the planes/choppers

Also, is it me or is mail from non-retailers in the US (from sellers on this site) taking its time to get here. I have a feeling hurricane Sandy had a dent in the postage services but I was hoping for a lot this week and got petty deliveries.

Now it's kind of the other way around with the newer versions of Office with .docx extensions not being compatible with the older '03 Office etc which you will find a LOT of people still using. Generally I'd say pdf should be your format of choice. Easily readable.

Layout really depends on your circumstances. If you've been recently and steadily employed a chronological resume (focus on employment history) is the way to go. If your work history is a bit spotty or you're looking at getting into an industry you don't have much/nil experience in a skills based resume is the way to go.

The most important advice I can give is to ensure that your resume is not too long and is easy to read. If you are sending it to a recruitment company handling the initial round of recruitment on behalf of an employer the staff member will generally spend about 15-20 seconds looking at your resume initially because they will have anything from 300-2000 to get through. This is speaking from experience. If I can't see contact details, if you've got a licence and transport, what you've been doing recently, what you want to do and at least two phone referees that would have basically been an instant "No" pile for you because you can bet somewhere in that stack of resumes received there will be 50 that have those attributes and will warrant a closer look.

It's REALLY brutal and it sucks doing it but only those 50 will get a thorough read through from which about a quarter may get phone/calls interviews. So:

- make sure it's concise
- don't have generic skills like "customer service". Basically anyone can say that. Explain your skills e.g.: Customer service - 5 years experience in a fashion retail store
- relevant info (employers don't need to know your date of birth, marital status etc)
- references. Don't ever put "available upon request". If you're making the employer/recruiter hunt for information it's over before it's started

I could go on for hours but there are some pointers...

So, Blu-ray eh?!

Watched: ET last night. Good picture quality. Nice restoration work. Some black level issues though and obviously the visual effects really stick out now. Great sound mix.
Thanks for that information man. Really helpful - I have sent you a PM

Grrrrrr !!!! Bloody useless Australia Post!!!

I had a parcel coming in from the US, that showed in the tracking on i-parcel's website as out for delivery today. Okay, fine. I sit home all morning ... no knock on the door, no sound of a delivery truck, no parcel lying out the front. At one o'clock I check the tracking again, and Australia Post's site tells me it was delivered at 12:36. I ring Australia Post, and they tell me that yes, their records say it was delivered, but they won't discuss it with me because, until I acknowledge receipt of delivery, the parcel actually belongs to Amazon, not me, and it's technically none of my business. I point out that if the parcel had been delivered, so it would be my business on their terms, I wouldn't be making a call to report it had gone astray — and they tell me it's still not their procedure to discuss it or act on it. That I have to report it to Amazon, and have them initiate a follow-up with Australia Post.

So I do a chat session with Amazon, and the rep (predictably) has no idea what to do. I have it escalated to a customer service manager, and am told that they have no procedure to chase Australia Post for the missing delivery, but they do have a procedure to replace these missing items that requires me to wait until December 14th before they'll do anything. They make sympathetic noises when I point out I paid for expedited shipping so I'd get these Christmas presents on time, and how this is now going to make their very purchase pointless ... but not sympathetic enough to do anything about it.

So, I'm sorry folks, but yet again I have to ask: is this normal? I guess I've been lucky so far not to have other deliveries go astray, but is this what happens? Does Australia Post get away with losing (misdelivering? stealing? destroying?) an expedited trackable parcel, and not have to even follow it up, with nothing to call them to account or even show on their stats? No accountability at all? That's total shite.

Gakk.

Hopefully you get your issue solved Mac.

I have an item that was out for delivery on 13 November. Yet I still haven't received the item.

Thanks VK.

I hope people don't think I'm just whinging. It's just I don't know anyone in person in real life who buys Blus across the internet, so I don't have anyone besides here to ask if this happens to other people, and what other ideas of the best thing to do might be. It'll get sorted eventually — I just hope it happens before Christmas!
