Just picked up an RC_LCR at FS for $199. It was open box. It was kept on the shelf and never used for their setup (display). It only had some damage on the grill and they allowed me to exchange the grill off one they just took out of the box to put in their HT room setup.

Just wondering if I can going to have sound issues with my C-500's ??

I have the RC-Mini right now so I am figuring that it will be at least better that what I currently have !!

Now what to do with the mini ?? Anyone need one PM me

I just got them in earlier today.. I had to put 2 new holes to mount them but the speaker wire in wall was still more than enough than I needed. So far I will say they are actually a pretty big improvement over my Paradigms. I should have just bought them before.. I got a good deal on them so it was a really good trade off. You can't even tell when looking at the wall that I changed my speakers but they do sound much better.

I redid my speaker levels and while everything was at 75db's the Energy's dropped to 68 for both surrounds so I had to bring it to +8.5 each on my receiver setting from +2. Sensitivity of both speakers were 90 db's but a pretty big difference in levels.

I have only tested out the AIX Sampler Sisc for the 7.1 Dolby True HD tracks and the presence was felt at every seating position so I am very pleased with them!! That is a very good demo disc even though there are only a few tracks. I also went back and forth between them and the Studio 40's and the Energy's tweeter's were actually brighter sounding than the Studio 40's. They probably need to be broken in still but the difference was very noticeable with the violins on the last track of the sampler disc. They do have a long break in period so I'll be setting my receiver to multi-channel for awhile to help them break in.

Overall I am Very Happy with them so far and Highly Recommend these surrounds!!

Default Quick question

Quick question, my C-C100, is on a shelf above my TV, and the back of it is about 1inch from the wall, should i stuff the port holes? or leave them as they are?
what will be the difference?

Not going to be abig issue in timber matching the C-500 but should provide a bit more detail. Hard to believe since C-500 are detailed already.

As for replacing the RC-Mini center by the LCR yeah the LCR is far more efficient and will have no problem keeping up with the C-500.

Great buy since the C-C100 is really hard to find.

The center may sound boomy at times and needs space to breathe, 12 inches would be good.

By inserting the port plug you will seal the box and eliminate some of the boominess but your speaker become a bit less efficient in this case but bass will be tighter a bit.

do the experience it really is not expensive and I think if you really can't move the speaker away from the wall, port plug it is.

thank you

the port plugs just effect the woofers correct? not the tweeter at all?

actually it just affects the cabinet. I had my C-50 without the port plug, and once I plugged it is sounded much better... that speaker is pinned in my bookshelf with blu-ray closing it in, so without the plug you could hear it chuffing, with it, it sounded deeper without chuffing... a good improvement.

That's an amazing price you got the LCR for, nice find.

Make sure to post back with your impressions once you've had some time to play around with it.

You may not want to nor need to plug both ports. Experiment around a bit with just one plugged versus having both plugged. I don't have the problem you have since the back of my C-C100 cabinet is 12 inches from the wall. However, I prefer leaving one plugged. It sounded better that way.

with my sub disconnect it, should i set my c-c100 to large as well? or just the 2 fronts and leave it as small?

I have an old sub kicking around that I thought i'd press into service as a second sub.

It's a Sound Dynamics Thunder Series. THS-1000.
Over time they were absorbed by Energy which in turn is under the Klipsch umbrella.

Any thoughts on where I could find the specs for this sub? It's an 8" sub with a 100 watt mosfet amp. It has a crossover dial and gain dial.
A pair a rca inputs and 2 pairs of wire connections. No phase control.

It's been an excellant doorstop for the last few years. but maybe I can get some better use out of it.

With the sub disconnected I still don't recommend setting any of your speakers to large as neither the C-200 nor the C-C100 are full range speakers. Those bookshelf don't necessarely like to take lower frequencies as there will be some rolloff that you should not technically have that the sub usually picks up at X-over point.

I would strongly recommend 60hz X-over set to small for your entire front sound stage.

Just my opinion

So I thought I would post some quick first impressions on the RC-LCR that I recently installed in my HT.

It replaced my Mini-Center, which although not optimal to go with my C-500's it did the job superbly and for a small speaker was able to handle dialogue and complete my front soundstage without any issue.

However... this RC-LCR is something else ! I immediately hooked it up ran my YPAO on my receiver, and stuck in a series of CD's to start warming her up... Even at first listen, I could heard the increased dynamics of the speaker over what I had... by Sunday evening, after some 40-50 hours of breaking in, I went to pick in on the progress and was blown away the improvement. The sound filled the room, dialogue on the CD was detailed and clear (concert CD)...

I wanted to through in a good tester movie to give it a listen, but wanted to hold off until I have put a good 100 hours or so on it... Instead, I put in a dialogue-heavy film, It's Complicated. The LCR sounds fantastic, it is a large room 15' wide and 20' long, with a seated position of 14' feet away from the screen. It easily filled the space, and I had it at my reference volume and did not have to turn it up, which I had to do with dialogue-heavy movies with my Mini-Center.

I am babbling away when all I really wanted to say was WOW. Best $200 I have spent to date on my HT. By and Far!

Matt

Oliver, heard the CF-70s again yesterday... man... the Totems and Dyns have ruined every speaker I listen to now-a-days. They (CF-70s) sound a little warmer in the mid-range then my C-300s, so Id say the C-300s are more neutral.... And I talked to the same guy as last time and he said he plays them everytime he comes in now, because he loves them with music. He called the Vienna Acoustics towers overrated compared to the CF-70s

Sorry, I don't think anyone here has experience with that sub.... maybe big daddy, you could PM him.... Wish I could help you.

Nice to hear a comparison of what you had before to now. I knew you'd find the RC-LCR to your liking. Imagine me with three of em! Muahhhhh! Congrats on your purchase Matt.
