Empathy is not sympathy. Not trying to justifying anything. It's just interesting to analyze why people do what they do.

It’s not straw, you’ve been making excuses for Batty this whole time. That said, if you now unequivocally state that Batty is evil and wrong for killing innocent people… then your ‘analysis’ will look less like apologetics.

You may or may not be, but that quote of mine was directed at Gorakijac who said ‘Roy is perfectly justified in killing every single human he encounters’. Why are you pretending I was talking to you?

Tim Burton needs to make a movie with $1 million and no more to help him recapture his love of moviemaking. I don't think he's felt love for his work since Big Fish.

I think he loves each film he does. Stuff like Sweeny Todd, Big Eyes, Corpse Bride, Frankenweenie all shine his usual charm and flair.

He just needs to ditch the dependence on CGI. I would love to see him resort back to stop motion effects and more in camera stuff.

After seeing Green Knight, it's obvious one can make an amazing film under such budget restraints yet have it look better than the blockbusters.

I can't wait to see The Green Knight. I've been very curious about it since first seeing a few random stills and have been avoiding articles about it in order to know as little as possible before seeing it. Would you recommend it?

The Green Knight is one of the best movies of the year, no question about it.

I love Sweeney Todd, but for some reason that I cannot justify or really explicate, it feels like Burton going through the motions. I don't know how much to attribute the successes of his stop motion animated projects because of how those productions go. He wasn't exactly on set every day. And Big Eyes might fit the bill, but it's such a minor little work from him, and it's also small, pointing to the idea that he's more engaged with smaller works than larger ones.

You know, like Alice in Wonderland.

He seems bored, to me. I keep thinking back to an interview he gave where he got irritated with his interviewer who said that his favorite movie of Burton's was Ed Wood. He was irritated because it made no money, it didn't have a marker of success that he seems to put a lot of importance on. I think he's been largely chasing box office success for more than twenty years, and I don't think it leads to the kind of work that makes him happy.

He also seems to hate working with Disney. I mean, Dumbo is a long screed about how much Disney sucks that he got Disney to finance, produce, and distribute.

In all seriousness, that is a really outstanding looking image (especially impressive as it's a .gif). Does the entire movie actually look that good?

I would. It's good for sure. I look forward to purchasing it physically so I can revisit it a few more times and, hopefully, grow in appreciation. Because it does some things fairly differently, it feels like a work that needs multiple viewings to really appreciate.

It's good. Not what I anticipated since I thought Lowery would make a more complementary medieval film. Instead he went against himself and made a film about "legends" under a very scorn tone. (Which is what he intended, according to interviews. He said he wanted to do something opposite to The Old Man and the Gun which was pure and sweet).

It's up there. I need to see more. But I gotta lean towards Nobody. That one completely won me over.

I definitely see what you mean but I think he still put some appreciation into some of those films.
Alice in Wonderland is the only one I can't defend. It's horrible and I can't believe it.

3D is a reason, for sure, why that made a billion. After Avatar everyone wanted to experience the new new 3D.

Burton’s Alice in Wonderland is one of the worst films I’ve seen in the cinemas. I really despise everything about it.

Batman, Batman Returns, Batman Forever, and Batman & Robin all look incredible. Their cinematography and set pieces alone are some of the finest ever put to the big screen. On top of that, they also sound incredible, because their soundtracks are actually great and their audio mixes are well balanced. Only someone who doesn't recognise or appreciate the peak of cinematography and set pieces will prefer the poor attempts at cinematography and set pieces of Nolan's Batman movies over the earlier and superior Batman films.
