On a Criterion note, I am really excited to check out Cronos, but decided not to buy it yet since I am still catching up on my BN purchases.
As I mentioned in an earlier post...if you have NetFlix, you can currently stream it...just an FYI...

Concept. I really don't remember any characters besides Leo being very fleshed out. Hell, Ellen Page's only function is to explain the rules to the audience.

Its a lot of fun though, definitely my favorite from Nolan.

I understand those, but Knight and Day and Shrek Forever After? Those are bigger mysteries.

Because they feel they are the best movies ever or the ones you should buy, duh.

Are these things that the majority of the people on this site want? If so, I might be pretty out of the loop as far as "popular" films go...

This is what I heard, so I'm catching it while I can, because I don't want to sell it short.

Sorry CC...not my intent! I had Cronos at the top of my queue and figured that it would be more difficult to rent it, than an older Bergman film (older, release-wise, that is). As it turns out, Cronos is available to stream on NetFlix, so I can get the best of both worlds.

On your suggestion..."Sawdust and Tinsel" should arrive for tomorrow night. I'm looking forward to it and secretly am happy that it's coming for tomorrow.

As far as The Fallen Idol...I spoke too soon, too early in the film. Once the characters and the plot developed, I got more into the film itself. Very British and somewhat dry in its method. Which is why my wife really enjoyed it (and she doesn't sit with me often to watch films, even though I know she is familiar with most of the older arthouse films, etc.).

I did enjoy it though and would like to watch it again in the future, as I will undoubtedly get even more out of it. That is how I finally came to terms with The Seventh Seal...repeat viewings.

what I mean; is the movie more based on the characters and what they do, or is it just a big concept and the characters are just the pawns? My favorite Nolan is Insomina, because you will never see Robin Williams in a better role, ever. If you grew up with Mork, you will know why. That was one of the best casts of a character, which Nolan is usually known for, I have ever seen. Nolan seems to be more of a character director, like with Guy in Memento. This is why I am asking, as I am not too familiar with the movie, but the hype and his past work has me interested.

My complaining was unnecessary.... It looks like my copy of "Videodrome" which shipped yesterday, has a delivery scheduled for today (same with my copy of "Let The Right One In" which I ordered yesterday)

UPS has been great recently for me.

Is it in HD with subtitles?

Got my copy of Paths Of Glory on Friday and watched it Saturday. Great movie; I thought the trial scene alone was worth the price of admission. Was a little surprised at how short it was; I wanted more! I still think The Killing is my favourite early Kubrick (i.e. 50's) but was very happy to see Tim Carey in Paths too, I freaking love that guy.

Has anyone listened to the commentary with Gary Giddins? Figured I'd ask if it's worthwhile before sitting down to that one.

KT

When you put it that way, then it can be argued both ways, and you'll get what I mean after you watch it (as aggie said)

Also have you seen the original Insomnia? I think its an early Criterion title and the people I've met that enjoy the original say Nolan's isn't as good, but I haven't seen either so i can't comment.

And a question to anyone: anyone know how good the chances are for A Woman is a Woman on blu? I remember the source used for the Criterion DVD seemed to have a lot of damage. I would love to have that along with Punch-Drunk Love. Would make a fantastic double feature.

Did you like Le Petit Soldat? One of my fav Godards from this period, along with Weekend of course, Made in USA, 2 or 3 Things, Masculin féminin, and La Chinoise. Oh, and 1968's Le Gai savoir, though not considered in the "New Wave" period. Just don't watch the last one without me saying that you have been warned. This isn't Breathless.

I've seen the original and it is better by design, but it doesn't have Robin Williams.
