so long story short: I pay off my credit card every month, but now with some readjusting of funds, etc., and some input from my Mom and sister, my sister is steering me away from my Amazon / Chase credit card and is suggesting that I only use my debit card. I've heard/read so many stories that debit cards and the use of them is problematic and riskier than with the traditional credit card usage and all - so ... can anyone point out and give me solace in why I really don't want to use my debit card for transactions but favor my credit card?

I've lived in my current building for almost 5 years and I don't know anybody - that's the way I like it. Nothing worse than getting a knock at my door at an odd hour from a neighbor wanting someone to lean on while I'm trying to relax. Or having someone ask me to watch their rugrats while they tend to some "emergency". No thanks. The high turnover in my building is another reason. I hate getting to know someone only to have them disappear one day to the next.

Unless you are concerned about lapsing on a full payment or spending more than you have or will earn for the month (either through an impulse buy or not tracking your current spending), there's no real argument in my opinion to use your debit card over a credit card. Good credit score is king after all and showing the ability to pay off debt consistentely makes applying for loans, mortgages and general financing a breeze.

I use my credit card for just about everything and pay it off in full each month. I use my debit card occasionally if I feel like switching it up one time here and there and checking that my card still works as it's well over ten years old. The card is so old it doesn't support interac tap. Also used in rare cases where places don't accept credit.

Using your debit card is as close as you can get to using cash. As soon as you pay, the money is deducted from your bank account. Using credit cards is like getting a one-month interest-free loan and your cash stays with you until you pay off the credit card.

Debit and credit cards also have different protections. Depending on your bank, you may be liable for some purchases made fraudulently with your debit card if it was lost or stolen but you did not report it within a certain period of time. If your debit card is compromised, it can be an uphill battle to get your money back if you don't catch it quickly enough. With credit cards, you often have much more time and will have zero liability with regard to unauthorized purchases.

There are some purchases with a credit card which are much easier to manage like car or hotel bookings. Oftentimes a hotel or car rental service will put a hold on your account for some amount of money and then return that hold when you check-out or return your vehicle. With a credit card, your money isn't touched until you do so. With debit cards, your funds will be inaccessible and having the money released can take some time.

Credit cards also have a lot of bonuses. Some cards like the Citi Double Cash card or Capital One's Quicksilver card provide 2% or 1.5% cash back on all purchases which is essentially free money. Make a $1,000 purchase and you get back $20 with that Double Cash card. That's pretty sweet. Same deal with miles and points. Free money. Who doesn't like free money?

One other important benefit of credit cards is the ability to build up your credit.

Every single person who I have ever heard say they refuse to use credit cards and use cash or debit for everything because banks are greedy blah blah, were financially irresponsible. At some point in their lives they thought credit cards were somehow free money and then wound up living beyond their means and racking up enormous amounts of interest payments and/or trashing their credit scores due to useless purchases. As long as you don't do this and pay off your balance every month, there is no reason you should not use a credit card.

One of my closest friends is getting targeted by a homophobic hate account and I just can't fathom how some people can be so horrendously ignorant and hateful!

the bold part is probably one of the best reasons to use a credit card vs. a debit card. a debit card is good for small purchases. but a credit card is definitely more secure and can earn you cash back on larger purchases. some debit cards do that, too, but not to the extent that a credit card can.

on that note, i had to cancel my debit card and order a new one. someone had used my amazon account to purchase a digital movie through the amazon app on my ps4 (spoke with amazon and they said that's how it was done). thankfully, i caught it just a couple hours after it happened and was able to cancel the card, order a new one, and delete every card off of my amazon account before anything else happened. so now i'm without a debit card for a few days...yay.

i've only got 1 credit card at the moment. but i'm in the process of paying it off and never using it, again. the interest rate is too high and can become a problem quickly if i'm not careful. so after i get it paid off and my credit goes back up a bit, i'm going to apply for a lower interest card and start using it to build my credit back even further.

Sometimes I think Amazon may be purposely holding my orders and waiting to see if I order more stuff before shipping out. Being a Prime member, it benefits them to withhold items if a customer is a frequent purchaser but it's not good for the customer since they have to wait longer.

Lol I had a talk with my boss just last night about this very subject. I get 20 days vacay a year and have not taken a single day yet. Last December I took about 2 weeks give or take and when I came back I was told I would never be approved for more than a week at a time again so now I have to spread my days out, which is fine by me. Now I have to hastily plan my time off for the next four months (I couldn't take any time off during the lockdown).

On another note, why do facebook posts disappear when I leave the page momentarily then go back to it? I saw something my sister posted then left the page briefly. I wanted to add a comment to her post but when I returned the post was gone.

Speaking of jobs I might be starting soon but they have to do the background check and my job counselor thinks I've gotten the job but I'm not sure. I hope I have it as I need that and SSI.

Samuel Beckett

Quote:
In January 1938 in Paris, Beckett was stabbed in the chest and nearly killed when he refused the solicitations of a notorious pimp (who went by the name of Prudent). Joyce arranged a private room for Beckett at the hospital. The publicity surrounding the stabbing attracted the attention of Suzanne Dechevaux-Dumesnil, who knew Beckett slightly from his first stay in Paris. This time, however, the two would begin a lifelong companionship. At a preliminary hearing, Beckett asked his attacker for the motive behind the stabbing. Prudent replied: "Je ne sais pas, Monsieur. Je m'excuse" ["I do not know, sir. I'm sorry"]. Beckett eventually dropped the charges against his attacker—partially to avoid further formalities, partly because he found Prudent likeable and well-mannered.

Was watching some trailers for a bunch of upcoming films and thought to myself, after watching the latest Bond one, I'd love to see a Bond film that had cameos from all of the previous Bond actors. I'd also love to see a throwback Bond film, without all the modern wizardry and high tech stuff. Just an old school spy story with a touch of goofiness like some of the best entries (like Moonraker).

I would like to have a webcam with my Mac that isn't expensive. I just want to do Zoom with my doctors. my MB air has it built in but its becoming a hassle to open and close it plus I getting a stand for it. I've switched to using my AOC monitor full time now and not even doing a dual setup.

Why is my wife driving home from Atlanta ? Her employer bought her a round trip airline ticket. She doesn't like long distance road trips...i'm assuming it has something to do with her business trip being cut short due to Hurricane season/covid restrictions.
