Default The Fifth Element: how to tell if its remastered?

Hello Forumites,

I purchased a copy of The Fifth Element from Best Buy last night...could someone please tell me how I can tell if this is indeed the re-mastered version or the old one? Does it actually say "REMASTERED" on the case label somewhere? Is there anything on the disc itself that makes this distinction? FYI, it looked and sounded pretty good, so I'm reasonably sure I've got the right one but I would like to be sure.

Thanks for your replies.

I tried Searching for Fifth Element....the SE doesn't like the word 'fifth' apparently because it kept dropping it from my search as being to common or too short, hence my post.

I've seen another post claiming that if my copy has Dolby TrueHD then it is the remastered version, is this so?

Correct. The original did not have TrueHD. Enjoy your re-mastered.

The quickest way to tell if it's the remastered is to look at the back cover and see it TrueHD is listed under the Audio section. They also have different spine ID numbers and UPC's. The spine numbers I don't have offhand, but here are the UPC's:

original disc: 043396150188

Remastered: 043396215207

The Very TOP SEAL on the TOP of the CASE that sticky label that you have to remove states it it is I think it will say the Title then something like REMSTR or something to that effect ... if you search for it on amazon.com someone posted a pic of what I am talking about so you can get a better example.

Exclamation The Fifth Element - how do I know if mine is remastered?

I couldn't hold off any more and wait to get it from Amazon. Just bought it from Target.

The case does not say remastered. But the back does say the usual 1920 x 1090p resolution and uncompressed PCM audio. The picture looks great, but being a 10 year old movie, I suspect either the transfer isn't as sharp as a recent movie, or something is throwing me off. My "video" button on the remote confirms the content is 1080/24p and playing at 1080i.

Is there any other way to tell? thanks!

Most sites do not give out the back information on discs, but if they do, the 1080p logo on the back is a dead giveaway. The unmastered version doesn't have it.

This is a quote from HiDefDigest forums:

"Well, the Remastered version has also Dolby TrueHD 5.1 included in audio with PCM 5.1. Thats probably the only way to recognize from the cover that's remastered version."

OK, I see a gold logo on the back in the lower left hand corner in a square.

Full HD
1080

Is that what I am looking for?

OK, I also see on the back

FEATURE PICTURE:
High Definitin Widescreen
Presentation (2.40:1)
1920 x 1080p

AUDIO:
Enlish PCM 5.1
(Uncompressed_
* English Dolby TrueHD 5.1
French 5.1

Subtitles
English
English SDH (What is this?)
French
Chinese
Portuguese
Spanish
Thai

Below that it says Mastered in High Definition.
Next to the gold logo I also see a DOlby TrueHD logo etc.

Unless there are other signs, safe to say I have the HD version? Sorry about the paranoia, but after spending $500 on a player, and $25 on the movie, I am NOT going to settle for less.

I would say yes you have the new re-mastered version. The colors really pop in that movie huh? I love it.

The remastered version includes a Dolby TrueHD soundtrack, the logo for which is printed on the back of the blu-ray case for the film.

Got it! The white peel off label came off in one piece and I put it to the side in case I thought I had to return it. It certainly IS remastered.

Thanks guys, this is why I try to give so much on this site. I get so much back.

May you all have a blessed holiday weekend.

It's not just the 1080p logo. The easy way to tell is to look at the release year. The first release one is from 2006, the remastered one is from 2007.

Very fine print on the lower right on the back.

the info about how to tell the difference is in a few posts we've had about the Fifth Element Remastered.

For example here's my multipass post about it

SWEET! Good job Sony!
Wow, I didn't know that until I read this thread. Just got the remastered Fifth Element with the lock.

Just looked at my other movie cases and they ALL have that tab locked down. But I can use it if I want. Excellent!
