Thank you for your posts on the matter in the last day. I too have been on the fence about the Alliance release, the individual blus or the combo pack. Since I have zero interest in owning Resurrection on Blu (I'm good with my DVD). I'm going to go with the combo disc purely for price, the PQ is good enough for my 42inch TV I bet, and it will look a lot better than my nearly unwatchable DVD of H20.

My pleasure. I had the exact same mind frame as you. I put it on my 37" set and it looks fine. Curse looks pretty great though!

I own the H20/Curse of Michael Myers Blu-ray double feature. I am happy with it since I am a huge fan of Curse of Michael Myers and don't care about H20 much.

Did anyone else feel like the guitar riffs felt so out of place? I hated them, If I want guitar riffs, I will watch Bill and Ted but please do not put them in a Halloween movie. I much prefer the subtle spooky sounds.

Because I refuse to import, I only buy us releases.

Sucks no Walmart around me had the double feature. $12 on amazon isnt too bad. Have to have all previously released films in the franchise before 3, 4, and 5 are released in a few months.

And I prefer H2O over curse, too bad it's not a better transfer but oh well, not a big deal.

Why do you refuse to import?
You do realise the Echo Bridge discs are GREVIOUSLY INFERIOR to the Alliance triple pack from Canada.

The Echo Bridge H20 disc is the only one that's inferior. Halloween 6 and 8 are the better ones (though the Canadian release of Halloween 6 does feature 5.1).

How is it better. I have found these different discs

Halloween: The Curse of Michael Meyers (1995)
US - AVC 20519 kbps 1080i 1.78:1, DTS-HD MA 5.1 1568 kbps 16-bit, BD25 (Box set)
US - AVC 1080i 1.78:1, Dolby Digital 2.0, BD25 (Echo Bridge)
CA - AVC 1080i 1.78:1, DTS-HD MA 5.1, BD25, no eng subs

Seems to me the other US disc is pretty much the same as Alliance?

because I only want discs made and released for my region/country. its for the uniformity of my collection and frankly I don't care about any outside release even if it is cheaper and/or better quality. if it hasn't been released here its going to eventually, packaging doesn't make a huge difference, and pq is probably one of the more overrated issues with movie buying. I want a movie because I like it, not just because it looks super cool. pq is never a make or break situation for me since I don't blind buy to just have an epic collection / demo worthy set up. sure if H2O is released with a better transfer I'd get it, but I'm not going out of my way and spend more on an import (in this particular case with my original question, I wanted to make sure the double feature didn't have lesser quality than the individual releases ala the Hellraiser double pack with the lesser quality on Bloodlines).

please excuse my soapbox

Y'know Adcatalano, sometimes I buy US releases too of my favorite flicks like Freddy Vs Jason. I don't wanna buy a Canadian import of a film that's already here in the US unless it's not (like Seed Of Chucky) or if it's better than it's US counterpart (like Halloween H20).

Canada is the same Region. I fail to see how a Canadian release would impinge on your collection's "uniformity"...it's not as if it has "CANADA!" stamped on it in big block letters. The disc art isn't a giant red maple leaf.

Halloween H20

Aspect ratio on blu-ray: 1.78:1
Original aspect ratio: 2.39:1

I've watched it. It's definitely open matte, which is annoying because the top of screen is obviously wasted space. It really distracts from the movie too.

Does it make a difference? I mean, I realize some people don't mind but it's not OAR -- framing is VERY important in a horror film. Especially the Halloween films, in the case of H20 they were trying to replicate the feel of the first movie, which is 2.35:1... giving the film a very open, yet claustrophobic feeling.

It's Open Matte which means there's more info on the top and bottom but it's still not the intended ratio.

Well Canada is in America so it isn't like you're straying too much. But seriously, it comes down to this, do you like all three films that are on the triple feature, or even 2 of the three? I bought it for 25 back when I was getting impatient about the sixth film coming out individually. I had it for over a year and the only time I ever bothered watching H20 and 8 is when I first got the bd, and even then I was busy playing online. I just never cared for those two films, so when EB did release H6 and I saw it for 10 dollars, I ebayed the triple feature and broke even, then picked up H6. The transfer isn't as good as the Alliance transfer but the Alliance transfer isn't 15 dollars better. Now I'd pay 15 more for an H6 transfer if it was the producer's cut, but 15 more just for 5.1? Bit silly since I only have a 2.1 system.

As for the upcoming releases, I'm totally all about the 3rd film. I think they're charging a bit much for it but since the only other bd releases I want around the same time are Jaws and ET, I figure dropping 20 for H3 won't hurt too much.

If you enjoy Halloween 4-6, then you will likely not have issue with the open-matte version of H20.
