I'm pretty certain it was established that both Jack and Rex were fully drained to reset the miracle.
They weren't completely drained I don't think just enough where they should have died except the military got to Rex in time and Jack healed on his own.

United Kingdom That's the end of Torchwood then....

Well with how the show ends, it's just a way for TW to continue without Barrowman. The show's unique factor was
[Show spoiler] that it was spearheaded by a man that cannot die. Now there are two of them?

My honest opinion of the whole 10 episodes is that it could easily have been done in 5, most of it was nonsensical rubbish meandering, a lot of it was the characters making the worst possible decisions, all the time, every time. The Welsh references were stupidly shoehorned in to the point of absurdity, nothing that happens, especially the climax (such as it is), makes much sense and directly contradicts how things have previously happened.

In short, it was utter utter crap. TW was at its heart, a quintessentially British show.

Proving once again that American producers just cannot do 'subtle' or 'British'

It had all of the flash, bang and wallop of a typically overdone American production, but none of the heart, style or soul of the original show.

It was a terrible terrible programme, with mostly empty episodes, one episode which was nothing but sex, a lead character that is a paedophile for no real reason other than to draw some attention and heat to the show, easily recognisable but stupidly wasted guest stars, a wafer thin plot that could have been cleared up in half the time, really bad (and I do mean bad) writing, and seriously bad acting (yes Mekhi Phifer, I am looking at you), all-in-all, It might have been something

...but it sure as hell was NOT Torchwood.

While I do think Miracle Day was a "lesser" Torchwood, I don't think it was bad. The mortality rate for the series has put them in a difficult position - I don't think many of us are enthusiastic about adopting new characters. Not many of us would prefer Rex to a more well defined Welshman.

I do think some of the ideas in Miracle Day were worth exploring. I just hope that the next go round is either more concise (like Children of Earth) or inclusive of more one offs (like S1 or S2).

It seems we're all waiting on RAD to decide.

Hmm, I am not happy at all that Rex is now the same as Jack. Its just ridiculous, so to become immortal and invincible all you need, despite Jack's continual claims to the contrary, is his blood. So that never occurred to the Family then? It spoils all the history Jack has with DW.

The Doctor has always been uncomfortable with Jack's situation, but now it seems you don't need any grand scale event involving the space time continum, the TARDIS or anything else, just Jack's blood.

He unique aspect of Torchwood is now gone, reduced to a poor cliffhanger.

On the whole this has not been a good series, drawn out, laboured and in parts poorly written and acted. I am not convinced we will see another series. If Rex is the new Jack, then the show is doomed anyway, why not go the whole hog and give Gwen a transfusion too, then the whole team can be invincible. Yawn.

I thought it had something to do with the blessing making Rex invicible, since he had jacks blood inside him, and Gwen mentioned something about The Blessing reaching out to save just one more person.

Torchwood Returns, But Not How You Would Expect

According to John Barrowman, the team behind Doctor Who spin-off Torchwood team are reuniting to continue the story with a series of BBC radio plays.

This would include Russell T. Davies, the show's chief writer, as well as Barrowman, playing the cocky immortal Captain Jack Harkness, and Eve Myles as Gwen and... you know what? I'll leave it there, because if I go on too much more the absences will be all too conspicuous and might spoil things for anybody still catching up on the show.

The Pittsburgh Post Gazette (via Metro) passed on word of the radio shows from an Arrow press event. Barrowman said that one of the "three or four" plays would feature the Torchwood team together, and the others would focus on individual characters. That seems an effective way to work around everybody's schedules.

He also said.

"My sister and I are discussing the possibility of writing one of them."

John and Carole Barrowman co-written and published a novel, The Hollow Earth, as well as a Torchwood tie-in comic, Captain Jack and the Selkie, neither of which I've read.

Barrowman notes that he's now full time on Arrow but should the BBC want to bring Torchwood back to our screens as well as speakers, he'd be keen. It's a big 'if,' though and I can't see it happening any time soon. Torchwood was a victim of Doctor Who's success; there was no way little brother could live up to such a beloved first born as The Doctor.

At least the BBC have a good track record with radio plays an audio drama. Just this Christmas they broadcast Dirk Maggs' adaptation of Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett's Good Omens to many plaudits, good listening figures and a lot of genuine laughter.

I would be way more interested in adventures through space/time with Harkness. Most of the time Torchwood felt like a ball and chain for the Harkness character.

Hopefully this will be more like series 1-3 and nothing like Miracle Day. I liked MD but nothing can beat series 1-3 for me.

Torchwood star John Barrowman has revealed that he is working on new plans to get the show back on television.

The Doctor Who spin-off launched on BBC Three in 2006, with a further three seasons airing on BBC Two, BBC One and then US cable channel Starz.

Torchwood was last seen on TV in 2011 with the ten-part Miracle Day season.

Barrowman announced at Comic-Con in San Diego yesterday: “I have a phone conversation on Monday to see how we can get it back on television.”

He added: “The fans know me well enough, I’m only going to say it if I mean it and believe it.”

Barrowman has just signed a new deal that will see his Arrow character, Malcolm Merlyn, appear in spin-offs The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow.

I'd like to see Torchwood return but if an American movie studio gets the rights to produce it, then I have no interest in seeing it. Torchwood needs to ignore what happened with the fourth series and continue after the events of 'Children of Earth'. The third series is definitely one of the better seasons. Hell, Miracle Day continues to be slammed by fans and critics alike. It was the epitome of American movie studio writing.

I don't think Miracle Day was that bad, but it was definitely more Americanized. The only decent new character was Esther but we know what happened there. I think the problem was that it was a storyline that had 10 episodes when it could've been 5 or less, so they stretched it out too much and made it seem way too broad in scope when it didn't need it. Torchwood was never a spy thriller like Starz tried to turn Miracle Day into. Also now that British shows are so well received here in the US these days than they were back then, they could probably go back to the original tone of the show.

At this point, they should just make a cinematic movie similar to Jurassic World, in that it pays nostalgic nods and references to the brand.

I like to see Barrowman back as Harkness in a new show but maybe not as Torchwood. I never loved the rest of the characters. I'd much rather see something like the Harkness Chronicles or Adventures of Captain Jack Harkness. A platform for Barrowman to be Barrowman.

A new show would be good but they would probably have to reintroduce him in Doctor Who first to encourage new viewers of the show to watch the spinoff and justify the cost of making it.

Considering where Torchwood ended they could easily just give us a new team.

I'd rather they keep the same format as series 1-2. I wouldn't want to see Jack flying around space. Leave that to the Doctor unless you make Jack a companion.

I think that Torchwood should only retain Jack Harness and to turn Torchwood into a special branch of British Intelligence, while keeping the tone of the original roots of the first season. But, I also think that BBC could produce more Torchwood along the lines of "Children of Earth". I thought that was a much better series than the previous two seasons and a lot better than Miracle Day.

I'd like to see Torchwood as a miniseries between Doctor Who and Class.
