Nice to see you over here, I guess it's pretty quiet over there.

Real shame speculation over Transformers sales is allowed to run for 5 pages, but the thread with actual sales data is closed in short order.

also Retronana any truth to this,

as far as im aware, a sale is a sale for that region, it does not matter where the destination is?

All major multiple, online, and smaller retailers report sales figures to Millward Brown who compile the UK video business charts, they do make an allowance for retailers that don't report data, but on video its less than a few percent, the sales reported on Spiderman on BD are pretty well the full picture IMHO.

The only UK retailer that does a "Walmart" is Toys R Us, they don't report any sales data on video games to the official chart in the UK and whilst they do sell video product in the UK their market share in this area is very...very small (IMHO)

The export question for Amazon.co.uk is an interesting point, every sale via Amazon's main distribution hub in the Channel Islands is an export of sorts and therefore it makes no difference is the sale is to the UK or elsewhere in the EU they I think would still be counted as sales by Millward Brown on video products (IMHO)

Given the current tax benefits gained from shipping via offshore, the general feeling is that Amazon.co.uk are unlikely to use their mainland hub in Milton Keynes to ship any product over £18 GBP, so I think its safe to assume that most/if no all Amazon.co.uk sales are tracked sales wise.

I tend to look at this from another angle, I work for a publisher that licenses titles for the USA, I look at the sales data from the US and try an work out what arrives back in the UK via the Canadian web retailers, 5%-10% who knows, the US business partner seems happy to claim the sales even thought the final customer maybe outside of the USA and in the UK/EU

My lovely R32 got stacked up the arse on the M25 about 5 weeks ago, 33k worth of written off...

Got hit twice, once at about 50, and then at 70, no fault claim, fine apart from my back is still sore and my wrists hurt 24/7...

I've still kept my good looks, Wit and charm so I'm sure I'll survive

Yes, this is where the people who want to keep their sanity have come. Very nice to see you here Dean and have you on board.

Thanks to Retronana for posting some UK figure here. I'm sure when prices come down those numbers will rise sharply as new UK adopters take over form us US importers.

Couldn't agree more but like Gandley said I wouldn't put Nic Rhodes amongst that motley crew.

Funny that Scrapbook is in there as he's suppose to be an impartial Mod. He's also the mod I called a sad bastard in a PM I sent him, which led to my first suspension because I didn't apologise like Stuart wanted me too, lol.

An interesting set of stats here from all and sundry showing how the Nielsen data supports sales of 115,000...

...butthen forgetting Nielsen don't count Wal-Mart who have 40% of DVD sales...

...which, if you do the maths, works out at just over 190,000.

What a coincidence!

Sadly it appears to show that, not only do Nielsen not count Wal-Mart, according to HMM Wal-Mart's 40% don't even exist.

I presume the $198 HD-A2s at Wal-Mart don't count either.

I hear lots of talk about Nielsen been an industry standard. Well, all media has its own little quirks. When discs are bought, they'll be bought by a sligfhtly different demographic with slightly different shopping patterns. Figuring out how to weight these takes several years of studying that particular media - several years which, to be fair to Nielsen, they haven't had.

so you think Walmart sold 75K copies of Transformers on HD DVD last week??? how much kool aid did you drink last night? what exactly was mixed with it???

I guess you missed the memo about Walmart being a distant third behind Best Buy and Amazon when it comes to High def sales....

did HD DVD people just toss all common sense out the window today???
See even the AVS boys have his number.
