Destiny will launch September 9th 2014.

Beta start next summer.

Later than I expected. But glad they are giving it plenty of time.

I've got a beta code thanks to a friend so I hope I get to stay in for a long while during the testing phase. Looks like a promising experience.

I'm glad they pushed it back because I will be busy with inFAMOUS, TitanFall, and hopefully watchdogs.

Destiny is available on Amazon for $54.99 and if you do the Facebook "share a wishlist" $5 off $35 promotion (in the Blu ray deals thread) it can be had for $49.99.

I don't mean to sound naive, as I read the OP...but will this have a single player offline mode?

Online only. But Bungie has said you can play through the story alone. However some content is made for group play.

Yeah, I'm curious about that as well. I think, from what I've ready, it sounds like it'll be like some of the games like Test Drive Unlimited, NFS Rivals, etc. in that you can do everything in SP but you might see online people driving by, in the game world etc. Here is a blurb from a Gamespot article...

Quote:
Destiny developer Bungie has clarified that you'll be able to play through all of the game's story missions in single-player if you want.

"You aren't required or forced to play any story missions in Destiny as part of a co-op group," clarified Bungie community manager Eric "Urk" Osborne on NeoGAF.

Osborne's response comes after an interview with Bungie's Jason Jones on Game Informer, which led some people to believe that some of the shared-world shooter's story missions would require co-op play.

"You absolutely are going to be able to play Destiny by yourself and have the same kind of fun shooter-experience that you could have in a single-player campaign," said Jones, "which is a word that we’ve weeded out of our vocabulary, but we’re going to give you this great player-progression on top of that, and we’re going to give you as many opportunities as we possibly can to expose you to other people, so that hopefully you’re drawn into some social experiences, because those are incredibly powerful and interesting, but we’re not going to force those on you."

Oh that's just wonderful. First I found out that Deep Down was Online only now I find that this is online only. Guess they don't WANT the fans who don't do online to enjoy their games.

This has been an online only game since the moment they announced it. They never tricked us into believing it wasn't.

Both this and Deep Down can be played solo. You'll have to be connected online but that is all. You can solo play all you want.

I'm just thankful that Activision is part of this and Dice isn't.
Otherwise, the Beta could go on for years.

For a game that is based on online Multiplayer (even if you can play solo), it looks amazingly good.

I like what I see, but so far it's all been about Bang! Bang!, loot, customization of weapons + armor, and exploration (Love the idea of being able to fly to other locations. At least I hope we can fly manually, and that it's not just a "touch this pannel to get in a ship instance" - then zoom cutscene, then zoom you are on a different planet ala SWtor).

I just wish we would learn more about the story and how much we are involved in it and how (hopefull no more or very little of "go fetch" and "go kill XX for XX times" if it's mmo-style). Ideally the main story would be entirely goal/ checkpoint based and acted + voiced. That's expensive, but given the budget...

Being able to fly manually would be killer! I didnt' even consider that as I just assumed it would be like KOTOR. Would be even MORE killer if Bungie implemented space combat against other space ships!!
