Why can't I engage film mode when I'm watching a bluray? I only get cinema smooth as an option?

So far the tv looks great. Although so far the digital antenna tv stations look better than the few blurays I've thrown in.

Thanks.

I believe its because blu ray is 1080/24p and it isn't needed. Cinema smooth is 96hz mode. Mine is off and 3D gets "Motion Judder Canceller- Standard" otherwise that's off as well.

That makes sense I suppose, but my last tv allowed access. So if that's how it is on other peoples f8500 then okay. Anyway, just starting to get into some discs. Started with some notorious dark discs like Godzilla and h.potter 6. Just watched a couple of scenes. Sweet...time to check what black levels look like on tron legacy.

Oh yeah. This thing is sweet. Goin from a 42 to a 51 wasn't a big enough jump in size but the quality of the picture is amazing. Not use to such consistent blacks. Guess I got accustomed to gray and cloudiness of my lcd. Just playin with some of the settings I've found on the Internet. Can't really afford a calibration. But yeah trying not to watch anything with black bars. Do you support the theory of break in?

I do have a break in period, just not to the extent others do. I know what you mean on the size thing. In this setup, I went from 65"-51", and it was quite noticeable at first. The 65 was just to big in this area of the house. I haven't done to many tweaks yet....breaking her in a bit first. Can't wait to open up cal-day and cal-night to see what kind of a difference they make.

Lol. I'm kinda used to the deep blacks, since I own a VT60. I'm noticing more of its bright capabilities than anything. I did watch Aliens on DirecTV last night and it looked amazing.
I decided to turn off motion and voice control, since it just pops up every so often. Last night it popped up and changed the channel on me, even though I didn't say anything.

Did that to me once or twice. I tried to use both but didn't see much use for it. Motion control didn't seem to work that well. The smart remote on the other hand is pretty sweet. The only issue so far was I switched to cinema smooth, just to se what it looked like and it got kinda stuck in that mode. When I turned the mode off it just stayed the same. I had to plug into a different hdmi port to get rid of cinema smooth. Still, I'm in awe of this tv.

Checked out the 3d on this unit and I was not impressed. Constant brightness and color fluctuations. I did all updates so...blacks were weak, pop was...meh. I couldn't get past the light and color changes. A bit disappointed but hopefully it will improve. Am I missing something because it looked about half as good as my passive set?

Use dynamic mode turn down the cell light and turn on motion judder canceller to standard. That's what i use for 3D or you can turn on film mode cinema smooth that will also stop the brightness pops. I like the tamed dynamic settings i use it makes the colors better not super accurate (I don't care its 3D!) but better.

Dynamic
Cell light: 12
Contrast: 95
Brightness: 47
Sharpness: around 5 is good but whatever
Color: Standard

Thanks. I'll try your settings. So you're saying that to get rid of brightness pops, I have to put on one of the motion "enhancers?" I don't like those things. Okay well I'll tool around later.

No its just one of the two options either use dynamic with or without my settings or use film cinema smooth. I use the motion judder canceller with 3D just because i like it nothing to do with the pops.

I used your settings, minus the motion effect, and it worked like a charm. Looks way way better. Sweet!

I use movie with cell light maxed, contrast at 94 and brightness at 47/48 ( prevents screen from shutting off with black fades )

Motion Enhancer is OFF.

Bad-ass 3D experience. Watched Dredd 3D and it was sublime.

I like the smart remote as well. It seems to work better running my Directv box and Denon . The other remote won't turn the STB on or off. Additionally, sometimes the input is automatically changed on my Denon, shortly after I turn everything on. Not sure what's causing that.

Am I pretty much out of luck in hoping to find the 60" model new for $1500 still from a store? I have been checking typical places like Best Buy and Amazon to see if they happen to restock a couple here or there but so far no luck. Are there any small shops that might ship it? It seems the 51" is the only one that comes back into stock on Amazon randomly. I even called Value Electronics which is a small shop based in New York because their website said they had some in stock, but when I called the guy said that no longer do and need to update the website. Not sure what other options are out there.

If not, what is the next best option as far as picture quality for a 60" TV?

Hey have you guys been getting much ghosting in 3d? Seeing more than I'm happy with. Especially in backgrounds. Anyway I left the 3d meter on 0, so it's not that. I haven't watched much 3d on it so far, mostly sin city 2. Other than that, wow the 2d is amazing on this set.

I don't see much ghosting. it might be dynamic setting it makes colors wonky try lowering it to 42 or so.
