You're right, I was going by the DVDs (as I never looked for it on the blu-rays, being as it wasn't all that memorable when I first watched it). A bit naughty of EiV to stick it on there - sure, the boxset is a 12 but the individual FOTR disc is still a PG. Ah well, as you say at least the disc is complete.

No, those extras never got ported across. The Gollum one (from TTT) and the Lord of the Rings Symphony one (ROTK) remain exclusive to those boxsets. I'm not sure that we got the National Geographic one in the FOTR boxset over here - I know some countries did (Austraila did and I believe the US as well) but we just got the 4-disc set and the statues (the NG special got an individual release around the time the film was released in cinemas).

For those wondering how long the special features are on this release, it's been confirmed they run at 9 hours and 16 minutes - without the commentary.

Oh wow, that's longer than the LOTR EEs! (FOTR and TTT anyway).

Okay, that's what I thought. I'm glad I picked up these sets for relatively cheap a couple of months ago..I've got just the empty boxes themselves displayed on my shelf right now and I think it looks pretty cool. The case for that Gollum DVD is really cool too and there's some neat artwork on it.

Agreed, the Gollum DVD case may be a pain to put with regular DVDs if your shelves are tight but it's a very nice package. I kept my boxes of the EE giftsets for years (I picked each of them up day one, I couldn't wait!) but eventually had to move them out when I moved, being pragmatic and realising I was just carrying around cardboard boxes for the sake of it. A shame and I'll know I'll come to regret it but (through gritted teeth) it was the right thing to do.

I'm still disappointed that we didn't get a statue edition of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey over here, I would have picked it up straight away. I'm not keen on paying to import one. Still, my fiancee would be the first to point out that our home has more than enough Middle-Earth paraphernalia in it as it is. She's still hoping for the day that I'll drop and break the Gollum statue, she hates it.

I keep trying to win her over by pointing out that it's not Gollum per se, it's Smeagol, he's the nice one! But no, she still hates it staring out of the shelf.

The updated artwork on Amazon now shows the decorated border going under the top blue banner (and the slip at the bottom) so it looks like the blue banner will just be a slip and we'll have the full artwork, just like the US version.

Buzz is right, the only version in the UK is the 2D/3D version (and the steelbook containing the same). But as it was available for £15 (and even at £17) it's at least priced at what people could have expected a 2D version of it to be, so it's not like people are being charged for the extra 3D or being ripped off. In fact it's cheaper than the Extended DVDs were when released ten years ago (around £17.99).

Exactly, I see it as getting quite a bit more for less; especially since Flubit is only charging me £12.75
