While they have similarities they are definitely different. The alpha for Blooborne isn't as brutal as the firs hour of Demons Souls. Demons Souls has a bit of a learning curve and patience required early on. It is very difficult.

Yeah Demon Soul in My Opinion is by far the hardest of the Souls game. But it is still very good. I will say I did not like the Light and Dark Tendencies and was happy that it was not in the Dark Souls game. Other then that it was a very good game but much harder then Dark.

They can be speedrun after learning them but an average of 20-30 hours first play through wouldn't be unheard of.

the light and dark "word" tendencies were a fantastic idea! you could visite different places with them and the game was harder with the dark "world" tendency.

I'm quite sure 40-50 hours, probably more, was about right for me first time.

World and character tendencies made for a complex system. Not only in the enemies you encountered, but in your characters strengths and weaknesses. It made death a form of currency in Demon's Souls. Life and death became less precious in the later games.

Didn't bother playing Dark Souls II considering numerous people said that although it was good it was a step down from the first game. Now Demon Souls and the first Dark Souls I played a lot of. I almost don't find it debateable that Demon Souls is the hardest of the two. At first I though that me dominating Demon Souls before playing Dark Souls made Dark Souls easier but the game really was toned down just a tad in the difficulty department.

Like you I didn't care for the Light and Dark Tendencies crap, at least when it came to getting a platinum trophy and I was so relieved they made the wise decision to remove that from Dark Souls.

Bloodborne has me so excited yet nervous at the same time.

Put off by the playing time. I couldn't possibly stick to one game for 40-50 hours. A 10 hour game is more than enough for me.
