What is a good surge protector you would recommend?

I've had my Oppo BDP-80 in my HT for 12 years. Except for having to always keep a disk in the tray so it doesn't stick when first turned on, it has worked flawlessly.

For the rest of the house, I used to buy low-end Samsung/Sony players from Costco for around $60. They would generally die within two years. You get what you pay for.

I currently have four Sony BDP-S6700's around the house. They seem to be lasting a bit better.

I use this right here and own several of them, as well as lesser models of the same design. It gets the job done, but if you have a setup beyond a TV and some minor electronics, you need to get something bigger, better, and more expensive, preferably designed for A/V equipment.

I think my Panasonic Blu-ray player is starting to go bad on me. It literally just locked up on me twice today in a 10 minute time frame. This player does lock up on rare occasions, but the keywords are “rare occasion.” Two lockups within 10 minutes is out of the ordinary and getting me concerned…

I'm starting to see more Panasonic BD players - a rare sight until recently - at the thrift stores I go to for scrounging, so there may be some truth to the player beginning to fail.

You should look into a whole house surge protector but these are good for localized protection.

Recently grabbed a 3d blu player dated from 2012 and I'd forgotten how slow to load some of the older players could be. It beeps a lot as it's loading like some of the older hardware. But for $7 it's a really good player. I was looking for a cheap player and they go for way more than that now for somethign new on Amazon.

I have a 2009 Oppo BDP-83 still going strong. So they can last.

When the disc is in does anyones Sony s6700 make like a discrete grinding noise at the home page when turned on. When the disc is out it’s fine. Not sure if it’s like this in general

Exactly what do you mean by "lock up", does it just suddenly stop playing?

Where did you find a 3D Blu-ray player for $7.00?

Me too! Love it! Still use my 2010 Oppo BDP-83 to play half the Blu-rays I watch, just to give my 2018 Oppo 203 a break and help IT last longer. Also still use my 83 for any DVDs (I don't have many left) and all CDs/SACDs -- since I think those music discs sound a little "warmer" than they do on my 203. Solid, solid players. (Knock on wood)

Completely frozen and unresponsive. Only way to unfreeze the player is to unplug and plug it back in.

Browsing and just saw this. A few months back I had a surge problem and bought two of these protectors. They are giving me the protection my tv, players, desktop and other av devices need.
Three times recently here in Florida I've been home when lightning storms caused blinking lights and tv off. The surge protectors did their job and protected everything.
So I recommend the product from personal experience. I paid about 60 bucks US each.

Generally seems to make sense. Like, it checks out that a physical format designed for long term durability would also have players designed for long term durability as well (although if that's not the case, I really care more about the discs being durable as opposed to the players, if I had to choose one or the other).
