DiCaprio will probably the co-lead with the juiciest and most complex part.
I expect the same in Don't Look Up.

Interesting turn.
The trades are wrong... the script was re-written to make Ernest (DiCaprio) the lead.

Is that accurate? The trades say Dicaprio HAD the lead role - the Plemmons role. But he thought the nephew role was more interesting and took the supporting role.

Apparently Plemmons and Gladstone are the defacto leads of the story with the corrupt uncle and nephew (Deniro and Dicaprio) being the supporting players.

Who is going to walk into a theater or stream KOTFM with the perception that Plemons and Gladstone are the leads?

Nobody.

Which is why I stated earlier, Scorsese is certainly entitled to make the film as he chooses, which may or may not reflect how DiCaprio has determined which role he wants to play, but for those who have have read the book, a not so insignificant number, it's a clown show.

Just an opinion, and in the context of DeNiro and DiCaprio as (mis-)casted, Scorsese could have pivoted to another A-list actor for the FBI agent role to go head-to-head with DiCaprio. And I say that with no disrespect to Plemons, who's a fine actor and would have been a great fit for one of the supporting roles. After all, Scorsese has been given $200M to shoot a $60M concept, but I guess the appeal for the trifecta was apparently too much to pass up.

Based on the respective actors work to date, it's going to be an uphill slog for audiences and does the book an injustice, and I say that assuming Scorsese will direct to create mis-direction regarding DiCaprio, his star power and the nature of his character.

What a shame.

Not sure how you know he got 2nd billing for Don’t Look Up when a poster or anything still has to be released

I mean there were reports that the earlier studio passed precisely for this change. They were like we ain't doing a Dicaprio supporting role picture, we want him as the star.

So Dicaprio and Scorsese and shopped around and Apple wrote them a blank check.

This is a streaming picture. This ain't never gonna make money. Apple is obviously going to lose money on this, just like Netflix lost money on Irishman. It is just a prestige play by Apple.

Eventually, I mean young stars have to come up in some way. Are you going to recycle the same few stars over and over again? Why not give Plemmons the opportunity to be a leading man star in Scorsese picture. That could make him an A lister.

I highlighted the key term - apparently - meaning the information is indefinite

Yes. Several articles said that the script was revised to take away the focus from the FBI agent and his team, and place more focus closer to home.

It sounds as though the complex relationship between the nephew and his wife are more the focus, now. Likely with the white husband betraying his Native American wife (Lily Gladstone), her family, and her tribe. It makes DiCaprio more of a villain, an antihero, and he and De Niro in cahoots with each other to rip off the Native Americans. It gives it more depth and darkness than just 'white savior FBI man comes out and saves the day'.

"Scorsese made a presentation of the overall intention of the film, particularly highlighting the themes of trust and betrayal, how ultimately the story of Mollie Kyle and Ernest Burkhart is a microcosm of the wider betrayal of the Osage people.”

He isn't fat, anyway.

A lot of men get that sort of squared off, blocky form when they're pushing fifty. Never known of him to be a big workout enthusiast, and he isn't 21, anymore.

DiCaprio really needs to start do some heavy working out if he wants to keep staying at the top and getting great roles.

Anyway, it's pretty clear from this meeting that DiCaprio's character, Ernest Burkhart, is now the lead character of the film, and Plemons is the FBI agent that is now a supporting character.

Great, this is going to be an incredibly unconventional and challenging character study in the vein of There Will Be Blood instead of a more generic and conventional murder thriller with the FBI agent as the protagonist.

Can't wait for this, more excited about this than The Irishman.
