All the Warner Archive Blu-rays are proper pressed discs, just like any other Blu-ray. It's their DVDs that are MOD and because of this, the Blu-rays are sometimes still labelled as MOD too, but they're absolutely not. So nothing to worry about here!

Pardon me, but I have a new (for this thread) question about Warner Archive titles; have any later received a wide release? I'm gonna pre-order this no either way, just curious if that ever happens. I don't want to rule out an actual collector's edition at some point while the creative team and cast is still alive to talk about it.

I think that's what he means... did any Archive titles eventually get a release that would be sold in a Wal-Mart.

And I think the answer is "no."

In fact, it's often been the reverse. Take the Audrey Hepburn film "Love in the Afternoon", for example. That was a wide release on DVD, and is now an Archives Blu disc, as is the case with pretty much all of the Archive Blus.

Thanks for the info everyone. Saw MOD on their site and was worried. Didn't realize all their blu-ray titles were labeled this way. I usually buy mine from Amazon.

Yeah, honestly, even the titles that are considered to be "wide" releases usually never see the inside of a brick and mortar store. The few times you ever see older titles are usually when they're store exclusives, like Universal's deal with Wal-Mart. Or when they hit the $7.88 bin.

Otherwise, the WB Archive Blus are about as widely available as the average catalog rerelease these days.

I thought the distinction was self explanatory. And, no offense, but I didn't automatically mean Wal-Mart bargain bin. That jump kind of explains why it's being released through Warner Archive. If they put even just a few extras together and rolled it out like one of the DC Universe Animated Original Movies I think it'd be a big success. I was just curious if there was any precedent for that from previous WA releases, but apparently there isn't. Too bad, but I'm still happy just to get it.

What are the chances that Batman: The Animated Series could get a Blu-ray release within the next year?

Highly unlikely unless it's all upscales or if Warner has been covertly doing HD reconstructions of all the episodes.

Not worth it. I sell a slip case for $10, Paypal takes about $1 of that money. Ebay takes another $2. $5 is then used for shipping it. That leaves me with maybe $2. Yeah, no. I'd rather just throw them out and save myself the hassle.

It's also not worth selling them here because there is no way in hell I am shipping out something I have not been paid for yet. You buy from me, you pay me first. You wouldn't walk into Walmart and say, "So yeah, I get paid next Friday, so I'm going to take this product now and will come back then to buy it."

Oliver's a good friend of mine, and he did a really nice job covering this film. He usually won't do a retrospective if it's not available in HD, but I'm glad he made an exception for this title. He was the first person I messaged when I heard the news. He was quite happy!

I saw Mask of the Phantasm in the theatre at Christmas, 1993. So, I've been a fan of it since day one.

That's cool I love Oliver's work they should add his retrospective as a special feature on the blu ray

Since when do you need to provide the item first before receiving payment? sold plenty on here and have always had the money upfront.

Is this going to have the original theatrical ending or the home video ending?

When I saw it opening weekend, I was the only one in the theater Too bad it doesn't get recognized as one of the great Batman films, and the best animated one (in my opinion).

I can't remember if I saw this in the theaters or not, but I would have still been a little kid at the time lol.

I'll check this out on Blu-ray again though!

4:3 is for me the best way to watch MOTP. They were way into production of the movie and only 6 months (not a year like someone said) before the release they were told to go theatrical and had to expand to 16:9. Therefore it couldn't be done that well, or for whatever reason, it looks much better in 4:3. There isn't obvious empty space on the top and bottom like Return of the Joker and JL Season 1... so I still prefer 4:3 for this.

Oh, the the original DVD was a double sided that included both 16:9 and 4:3!

Also, what is this original theatrical ending? Seen it mentioned twice already. Didn't know there were differences. If there's something I would like them to change is that awful end credits music. Takes away the mood of the film completely!

I got to see half of the movie in theaters.

I'm going to go with the 16x9. That is the way I have been watching the movie since I got the DVD back in 2000.

I remember watching this in theatres originally and being annoyed when during close ups on heads, the top of the heads would be cropped off. So around the middle of the forehead would be where their head would start to appear which looked funky. I could just tell from the rest of the exposed frame in those scenes that what was left exposed was all cropped too tight and more frame image had to be missing. I don't know for sure that I knew back then that this movie was originally intended to be a direct-to-video release. But coming out of the theatre, I knew from what some of the frames looked like, they were cropped from 4x3 to widescreen, and it ruined the experience for me. I own the DVD of this and have always watched the 4x3 version. And I'm so looking forward to owning this on blu! Disappointed of course that there's no new BTS bonus material.

All these years I've always heard that the homve video releases had a different ending.
No one ever said what it was. Remember this was very early internet. Stuff wasn't as easily accessible as it is now.
No where have I ever seen written what was actually different, just that it was.
And nowadays, no one even remembers that it was different!
