I was really disappointed in this movie. I was really expecting to like it, and just came away angry at it. This could have been so much better had they just paid attention to detail a little more. And the Universal BD sucks. A bare bones BD25 with a garbage bit-rate.

Some of the things I remember off the top of my head that annoyed me as I was watching it...

[Show spoiler]- Calling a shotgun a rifle
- Lighting a tree on fire, and it miraculously collapses and she frees herself in seconds.
- The Harmon Kardon subwoofer sitting ON TOP of the receiver...
- The cheap shot dialogue line about men in the last sequence.
- How does a completely smooth piece of aluminum from a beer can brand an eagle on you? Just because an eagle was printed in ink on the label? That's not how that works...
- Taking peyote gives you ZERO pain?
- She can't even load a shell into the shotgun at first, but out of nowhere she is completely competent and accurate with it.
-She's portraying a city girl, but yet she knows exactly where the starter is on the ATV when it runs out of gas? It was already running when she got on it after killing the first guy.

Just seemed like a really poorly executed anti-male campaign. All flash, zero substance.

Totally disagree. This was a well-made thriller. You're focusing on the small details. I'm not going to pick apart every line point you made, but as far as the drug she took, she mixed it with alcohol. I imagine that could easily multiply the effects, as it does with many medications.

I wasn't a fan of this movie in any major way, I mean it was fine and everything but it seemed like nothing more than a pretty generic revenge thriller. However I think the movie missed a trick when
[Show spoiler]the guy gets his foot cut up. It was taking him so long to pull out the thing that had cut his foot I was really expecting it to be her earring that had embedded itself in his foot. It would have been perfect irony as he was the one who had shot part of her ear off, causing the earring to fall on the ground. Would've been great if that's what he had stepped on, his own stupid fault. We even had a couple of sustained close ups of the earring, setting it up for him to step on. Missed opportunity IMO .

Nope, most take peyote with booze doesn't cause pain just trippin. And using your opinion as fact is silly. How exactly is this well made? She would have fitted for sure if not right away after the fall and impalement. Especially true without seeking medical attention if she survived at all. But it was beyond that because most films do crazy stuff. It was the other stuff which just seemed so convenient for her out of nowhere. If she was that able to defend/hunt these guys then she wouldn't have been so easy to begin with.

Anyone trying to place real-world logic and realism to this film clearly missed the point. Claiming things wouldn't actually work that way in real life isn't a valid criticism of this specific film.

I like to think of Revenge as an unofficial CROW sequel. It has all the elements. She basically
[Show spoiler]dies and is "reborn"
. Then there is a bird burned on to her stomach. She comes back for revenge. What more do you need?

Saw this yesterday at the multiplex here, dubbed in Italian.

Very generic and quite ridiculous. I kept imagining "what if that Range Rover was a Peridot green Cayenne GTS" or "What if that shotgun was a SPAS 15" or "What if that display in the lounge was a hundred inches"...

Not the mark of a good film.

These were my thoughts, my friend.

I got invited to a private screen to watch this 3 months ago, and was very excited as I had anticipated a subversive, post hashtag metoo revenge thriller, but I was too optimistic, it seems. This film somehow manage the bewildering feat of being both misandrist and misogynistic.

The protagonist, even after her rebirth, is completely sexualised throughout, putting her vengeance sequences odds with how seriously we are meant to take her. Seriously, watch it again, and you'll noticed a scantly clad young woman walking around virtually naked. This is I Spit On Your Grave levels of sensitivity.

Also, the men, predictably and portrayed as scumbags. There is no complexity to them, nobody of even a wither of humanity or sympathy, just another film about men hurting women.

There is nothing interesting about the main character either beyond running around and branding herself with some sort of symbol. It does not help that her vengeance scenes are uninspired and unsatisfying, too. Extreme, sustained gore does not make for an exciting, cinematic adventure, at least not this viewer. Careful splashes of it could have made it more exciting, otherwise, this was just horrible and nearly made me throw up a few times. I thought I was watching some live version of Tom & Jerry.

To top it off, this was directed by a woman! I'd have understood the vacuousness if it had been directed by some hyped up alpha male, but this is some petite French lady at the helm.

What a waste of time this film was and I am shocked at how much of a cult following it has already.

I watched it on Shudder last night. It was aesthetically nice to look at with great locations and camera work. It certainly has its flaws, but I enjoyed it a decent amount.

To the credit of I Spit on Your Grave (I never thought I'd say that in my life), there was more to the protagonist than the one dimensional portrayal we got here. She ended up at the cabin to write her book, the main girl here seemed to fly out here because she thought the main guy was a hunk and spent the whole time drinking and flirting. Perhaps the screenwriter thought the motif of rebirth would work better if she started out a one-dimensional stereotype but it reduces this from art to a sort of pretentious exploitation film.

And again, in ISOYG's favor, at least one of the attackers was almost sympathetic in that he was mentally handicapped and perhaps didn't know what he was doing. Here, the closest we get to a sympathetic or three dimensional antagonist is the initial attacker who would rather they spare the girl and get her to a hospital. Having her disappear midway through the film gave the movie a chance to change things up, maybe have them turn against eachother and her attack amidst the confusion but no, they just do what they're told to keep the plot going.

It basically came down to rather than show the one girl in the cast in the buff we got the main baddie instead as often as possible. There was some restraint shown in the attack scene but it feels like that was only so the visceral scenes later would feel more shocking. The rebirth scene might've been her idea but the rest of the movie, particularly the characters themselves are pretty weak. I can say its well photographed albeit not particularly well directed.

If you liked the style of this movie, you should check out Let The Corpses Tan. It's another French, hyper stylized film with a good amount of blood and gore. It's a lot more subdued and more Crime/Action/Spaghetti Western versus straight horror/thriller...but there are quite a few shared aspects. Bright colors and visuals.

I liked it. Not very original story, but beautiful cinematography, settings and score. The lead actress and lead villain were good. Hated the two sidekicks, but you're supposed to.

Her fall off the cliff, lighting the tree on fire (seriously, her hair should of burned off!), branding was a little eye-rolling. Yeah, having her running around almost naked AFTER her "rebirth", was exploitive.

Still, it moves very quickly, it's brutal and gory and a fun watch. If you like stuff like Last House on the Left or I Spit On Your Grave, you'll like Revenge.

Finally got the chance to check this out and it was not very good to the say the least.
Despite some nice digital cinematography and real bloody moments, it had poor to non-existent character development, the villains were painfully one dimensional and a script ridden with major plot holes and implausibilities plus it lacked any kind of depth but it's main crime was that it was outright dull going into laughable.
Not totally awful but it was just another case of overhyped mediocrity and nothing but the same ole', same ole' regurgitation that adds nothing new or even interesting.
