"Set not too far into our future, it’s the first ‘Alien’ set on Earth"

Exactly as I predicted. They are going for the lowest common denominator AvP with the focus being american solders. Ugh.

I should also mention the only Alien movie available on DMC is...........you guessed it........AvP!

Ridley Scott Says The Alien FX Series Will Be 8-10 Hours Long

Quote:
“We’re already into, having written, the pilot for Blade Runner, and the bible. We’re already presenting Blade Runner as a TV Show which will probably be the first 10 hours and then Alien is a similar thing. Alien is now being written for Pilot. You also have to write the history of it – 8 hours or 10 hours – the bible of what happens in those 10 hours. Then if it goes on, like The Good Wife is mine and The Good Fight is mine – that’s been going 16 years.”

I'm always impressed how much the haters are determined to hate even on the evidence of next to no information. Also, where does it say it will be a comedy ?

Can you blame them the franchise has been a sinking ship, rather than prioritize what needs urgent attention (which would be the concluding the prequel film saga). Now the creators what to do a prequel series mostly likely at best has loose connection previous films. Its almost as if throwing things at the wall seeing what sticks. Of course it's not going to instill much confidence from the audience.

*snicker* No information would of been good news. What has been let out is just a rehash of AvP and this is from disney, home of the lowest common denominator retreads.

But hey the same negative things were written about all the Terminator 'trilogy' reboot attempts and look how that turned out......

Just make up a checklist of what AvP is and match them to what has been let out.

But hey, It all depends on what a person wants. If a person wants mindless super-action crap then that person will be happy with what has come out and that it is coming from disney cause mindless super-action crap is what disney is all about now.

If a person wants something worthy of the artistic heights that Dan O'Bannon, Jean (Mœbius) Giraud and Giger achieved with the first film, then that person will be revolted by what has come out.

If you can say one thing about Noah Hawley it's not that he makes anything generic.

The premise of Earth's definitely not something that instills confidence. But that's not all the info we have: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...&postcount=906

"What’s next for me, it looks like, is [an] Alien series for FX, taking on that franchise and those amazing films by Ridley Scott and James Cameron and David Fincher. Those are great monster movies, but they’re not just monster movies. They’re about humanity trapped between our primordial, parasitic past and our artificial intelligence future—and they’re both trying to kill us. Here you have human beings and they can’t go forward and they can’t go back. So I find that really interesting."

"On some level it’s also a story about inequality. You know, one of the things that I love about the first movie is how ’70s a movie it is, and how it’s really this blue collar space-trucker world in which Yaphet Kotto and Harry Dean Stanton are basically Waiting for Godot. They’re like Samuel Beckett characters, ordered to go to a place by a faceless nameless corporation."

"In mine, you’re also going to see the people who are sending them. So you will see what happens when the inequality we’re struggling with now isn’t resolved. If we as a society can’t figure out how to prop each other up and spread the wealth, then what’s going to happen to us?"
-Noah Hawley

So definitely not about soldiers lol

I just figured that if a xeno got on Earth, that would be it. So when the AvP movies decided to put the xenos not only on Earth, but also spread them across thousands of years of Earth history even in present day? Somehow I think Ripley overestimated the creatures chances of destroying 'everything' if the Company got a hold of it.

On that note, can we drop the company subplot? I never really bought into it and neither did Dan O'Bannon when he learned that they added the 'evil corporation' bit into the original film. You have Weyland Yutani who have the power and resources to literally build worlds but they're going head over heals for these xenomorphs? I quote Yahtzee,

Quote:
"Weyland-Yutani now of the opinion that an uncontrollable biological weapon that reliably wipes out their science teams on mass is totally worth openly declaring war on their own country's military for. Christ knows how Weyland-Yutani spent their time before the aliens were discovered. Probably threw children on piles of burning money."

So you think a powerful corporation wouldn't want to be even more powerful by having a biological weapon? Ok...

Also, screw O'Bannon. If Hill and Giler hadn't improved his script, and the studio hadn't gotten a visionary director who took it seriously, Alien would've been an instantly forgotten B-grade sci-fi.

Correct and read The Cold Forge, and Into Charybdis to see such stuff done with a deft hand in the Alien setting, in the current year.

I really hope Polly Morgan's onboard as the series cinematographer.

I also look forward to a return to the retro futurism of the first three Aliens with the work of Carol Case likely being onboard if history tells us anything.

Legion and Fargo were both really good shows. I’m confident that Hawley will make a good one here too.

The last thing I need is a concluding chapter to Scott's wretched prequel movies, I'm glad this is taking a different tack. I go a lot by who is creatively involved in a project and considering Fargo was one of my favourite shows of the 21st century, I have some faith in Hawley. I'm a huge fan of Alien and Aliens and not much else the franchise has to offer, but I'm not going to write something off till it's come out.

By your own logic you shouldn't write off the concluding prequel either because it hasn't come out, also Ridley Scott is involved with the series so again why are you complaining that people are skeptical if anything you should be more worried than anyone. I agree no installment has had the same impact and quality after Aliens and the prequels are wretched but leaving hanging thread is not helpful unless the wiping the prequels clean then that would be fine too. You can faith but no director is infallible and being different doesn't necessarily mean it's good.

Ridley Scott has made two shitty prequels to Alien, so why should I have faith any that his third one is going to be any better ? I have no investment in these films and Scott has obviously has forgotten what made Alien a classic. Now he is only a producer on the TV series in the way he was a producer on The Good Wife, which is what he referred to in the interview, which means that creatively he doesn't call the shots. I'm not claiming that the tv series is going to be good or even live up to the first two films, but I hope it will decent be thanks to the showrunner involved and maybe a change of medium will help. What I don't understand is people slagging it off and apparently knowing it will be terrible long before much is even known about it.

Out of 8 movies with Aliens, only two are damn good!
The rest vary severely in quality.
If you don't care for those, what gives you ANY indication that you'll even like the TV show?
TV is always more "lowest common denominator" because it's "free" entertainment
