Look, I get that I'm being nitpicky about the cover art. But, I'm just not feeling it. Why couldn't they use the amazing vinyl cover art or something that represents the movie better? I dunno - It's still a day one buy for me, so they won.

Why aren’t people allowed to whinge about the cover art, they don’t sell standalone discs do they, it’s all part of the package. And this movie, one of my absolute favourites, has been treated with lazy contempt! Bright white? Yeah? That really represents the ‘dark’ knight and Gotham City doesn’t it

As with blu-ray beforehand, I am sure we will eventually start seeing some 4K discs re-released in fancier packaging so if that is important to you perhaps wait for a re-release down the road? ![]() Personally I welcome good quality transfers of catalog titles because the amount of utter garbage released on the 4K format is absolutely shocking and has me buying standard blurays again. |

Looks like I still have to hang on to the DVD copies just to have the original artwork for the boxes.

I've still got the HMV-exclusive DVD box set:
![]() ![]() Light on extras and two of the films were censored, but these were some of the first DVDs I owned and I've got plenty of nostalgia for them. Obviously I got the two-disc special editions when they came out. Not all at once - I was an eleven-year-old with limited pocket money - but gradually. Not my pics, by the way - I nabbed them from eBay. |

If they’re going to do this bright color blocking thing a la the Mission Impossible UHDs, they could have at least used the primary color associated most with each film... like yellow for Batman, blue for Batman Returns, etc. But bright blue + bright white for the first film? That film has always been associated with iconic black and yellow in its advertising. So, I dunno. Weird design choice.
Also, it’s funny how the press release states these new covers were designed with “stunning glossy retro colors reminiscent of the 1980's and 1990's era when the films were originally released in theaters.” Um, what? If they’re going for the “retro”/nostalgic thing, there’s nothing that would catch the nostalgic eye of passing customers moreso than the original poster images for these films. Again, I’m definitely buyin’ em, but speaking purely of cover artwork and graphic design, these really are terrible for a variety of reasons. Last edited by Jlouisbarrett; 04-03-2019 at 03:43 PM. |
