you will

my 60gb launch model had the YLOD and they sent me a "new" unit. it doesnt even have 1 micro scratch on it.

works 100% just as before, but the PS3 fan is quieter, so i am thinking that it has the newer fan inside, because i dont hear it anymore after watching blu rays

that is great news! so it is worth paying the $149? my 60gb is out of warranty and it just recently quit working. When I turn it on all I get is the PS3 logo at start up and then the black screen with the grey wavy line, but NONE of the menu options are available. It won't do ANYTHING. When I contacted Sony they sort of indicated this was a serious issue and that more than likely they would not be able to fix it...

Yeah, I hear that. But for 79.99 I sent it to JD. If he is able to fix it, I get my unit back. If it doesnt work, he refunds me, then I pay Sony the 149+tax.

From reading around, the turn around time from Sony is 1-2 days, more than likely meaning they don't even bother trying to fix yours at the time. They give you someone elses, fix yours later.

Seemed like an easy call for me, to try JD.

I've actually heard that Sony's turnaround time to be 2 weeks. However I guess it may depend on the current business situation they are currently in.

The only thing that I could think of would be either a hard drive either or video settings.

I recommend turning off your PS3 then powering it back on by holding the power button until it beeps. Then select option 2.

If that doesn't work then I recommend buying a new hard drive for your PS3 and worst case senario you have a larger hard drive for your PS3.

Just watched the video.

He definately shows every step that one would need to take.

Well I see there are instructions as well.

I can definately add this to the master thread.

Yeah I didn't want to try it. If you do it wrong you can end up with an unrepairable unit.

I guess I could have still sent in to Sony if I ruined it, but I would rather keep my actual unit.

I couldn't agree more with your assessment. I find the procedure to be very risky and only to be done by professionals. However I don't mind sharing this information for those that are professionals and are in the same situation.

Well if the guy doesn't contact you by noon PST, I recommend sending him an email or something just asking for a status or something.

Just spoke to JD Electronics....

PS3 Repaired!!!!!!

RDX chips soldering was F'd. Heated, cooled, fixed.

Hopefully this is a long lasting solution. I get a 90 day guarantee from this guy, and I can insure the $80 repair for 11.99 for a year.

I'm debating what to do. I kinda think, if this happens again I will go refurb from Sony.

Japan Will SCEA Fix My Japanese PS3?

Assuming that I pay the retardedly high $150 fee, of course. Does anyone have any experience with SCEA fixing PS3s from other regions? I would really like to get my 60GB PS3 repaired with out having to ship it to Japan, if that's even possible. By the way it appears that the GPU is fried on this system...

The funny thing is that if I don't turn it on for a few days it will work fine for around 1 minute before the screen freezes up with little red or green dots. I still hear audio in the background, but the picture remains frozen. Does anyone know of any other places in the US that might fix it, hopefully for less?
