It's not lazy, the director has control and he was probably the one that made the call. The editor just does what the director says. Even though I disagree with the decision, I still have to live with it and enjoy the film as-is, same as with Ghost Protocol on home video.

Eddie Hamilton has worked with McQ on many films now, including Fallout and Top Gun: Maverick. I think he knows what he's doing.

Has anyone heard anymore about the production making a claim against their insurance - I think it was for $100 million - to compensate for the COVID costs?

There were a couple of posts about it - I can't remember if it was in this or the other M:I thread - but I don't remember if the production actually succeeded in their claim.

I know the reported budget is the reported budget. But if they got that claim paid out wouldn't that put this film in a much better profit position?

Like I say, I don't remember anything definitive on that claim and seems like the narrative pretty quickly went back to "it's a flop because of the bloated budget".

On reddit it's been all but confirmed that the cropping in Part One was a creative/editorial decision, but that Part Two would have some expanded sequences.
Nope, it had expanded parts at one point (before the imax falling out) and just like Maverick the screen x version was the same scenes

This was only in IMAX for one week, so I don’t think it was a creative choice, but, they lost any more time slots, (edit 2: due to scheduling changes with this and other films), so, why bother with an extra imax master, it was definitely a budget cut, I don’t care what anyone says to gloss it over.

On that note, even so, if I had known it was only going to be in imax that one week I would have made time for it, so I missed it. (I really thought they would bring it back like they have done in past with multiple releases only one week apart.) edit, forgot to mention, I’m not too keen on seeing this outside of imax. But maybe if it’s available cheap while I’m on vacation next week, not paying full price to see it non imax

Oh, it was a 100% creative choice. Most of the film was shot anamorphic, so they really didn't have enough footage for some kind of IMAX sequence.

Since McQ deleted his tweets I only have half a convo, but I he told me it had opened up imax sequences.
And just like maverick the screen x and imax opened at the same points

How long ago was that? Do you have links?

I remember a few months before release seeing tweets about the early runtime being well over 3 hours, it's possible they had the expanding ratio back then but after cutting material decided the sequences weren't long enough, which would explain the editor's comments.

The expanded moments are in screen x so time and edits do not matter.
Links to deleted tweets?

Don't care either. FYI this will be around for the rest of our lives...no need to nonsensically pause life which I find against nature and absurd. If you are not comfortable with going out than don't go....

Nice! Best Buy also had this date listed earlier in the day before they changed it back to "Not Announced." I assume they are waiting for the official press release.

Pretty slim selection of extras for what is apparently going to be a 3-disc set. Dedicated special features disc for 30 minutes worth of material?
