They may do Mysterious Island next year, maybe. I guess part of it would depend on how well Journey's reissue and First Men do (more importantly the former obviously). Sony pulled out all the stops for First Men for its BD debut thankfully, but they have yet to do any remasters for Twilight Time yet, as Fright Night looked different on the new BD, but just in areas of brightness and contrast, shadow detail. It was otherwise the same 4K transfer (though it doesn't look as finely sharp as 4K typically does). So who knows if Mysterious Island will get a 4K remaster like Journey did from Fox.

They don't need to....the Twilight Time First Men disc looks incredible. And since it's still available, it will be a long time (if ever) that there would be another release. It is easily the best transfer of ANY Harryhausen film on disc to date.

I think Jason and the Argonauts looks nearly as good. I was also impressed with the three Sinbad films on BD.

Sony themselves haven't done any remasters of their catalogue for Twilight Time yet, Fox has with Journey to the Center of the Earth but that's been the only TT remaster so far (that one looks magnificent as well). Fright Night, a Sony title, has been put out twice through TT with the same transfer, only tweaked the second time. So I'm unsure if Sony will remaster Mysterious Island for a second TT release. |

Also, the official release is OOP, so one can hardly blame people for buying the version that is available. If a 4k remaster of MI comes along in the next years, I will gladly jump on it. We need the rest of the Ray Harryhausen films on BD. So it's up to WB and Fox to get of their butts and release these amazing films. Last edited by Bluyoda; 04-05-2015 at 12:43 PM. |

There is a lot less of that in FMITM. I don't recall seeing any footage in any of the other 3 that comes even close to the quality we have in FMITM. That's not a criticism of those 3 titles - I have them all. |

Having said that , the process shots in FMITM look better than any other Harryhausen movies I have on Blu and better than any previous FMITM release. I guess it depends on what film elements they have to play with. I love the movie but the Blu of Clash of the Titans is really bad for these sort of things but I don't think they can do much about it. I heard that Warner delayed Titans due to the negative feedback the earlier Columbia titles got but I'm glad they went ahead with it even though there are many moments that are distracting |

Just finished listening to the commentary track of "20 Million Miles to Earth", and I must say that this easily looks the best of the 3 (It came..., Earth vs., and this one), but the colour has caused soe rather sever combing, that does not appear to be visible in the B/W version.
It also has the best animation of the three. Some really great stuff. |

Yep, that's certainly the one that would benefit the most from a proper bluray. The ultimate hammer collection UK dvd is pretty good, but obviously Raquel Welch screams out for HD.

I'm hoping that the final three Harryhausen movies not yet on BD will make it soon. I'm pretty sure HD masters of The 3 Worlds of Gulliver and The Valley of Gwangi exist from Sony and Warner Brothers. Both should be released on BD. The one I worry about is the uncut version of One Million Years, B.C. I haven't heard anything from Fox to suggest this one is on the way.
It would be nice to get better quality blu-rays of The 7th Voyage of Sinbad and Clash of the Titans. The audio I have from the Clash dvd is 4.1 vs the bd being 2.0. That I hope Warner upgrades as well. |
