I bought a brand new Denon AVR-890 for 380$. Now I think no matter, the money is a good deal but I need to know. I know it's already an upgrade because I currently don't have DTS-MA and Dobly True HD, which this receiver has, but I also don't want to buy another one for a while. Should I keep my 380$ and wait to buy something else or is this more than enough for a long time? I know there's always better but taking everything into consideration

Is it a good amp?

Thanks guys
If it's brand new, that *IS* a great price. I just bought a 1910 for about that and the 890 is the next step up from the 1910. I'm no expert but considering what you paid for it I don't think you can beat it.

If it will suit your particular situation is another question. What other equipment are you running? Unless you are running really high end speakers or need things really loud it should be a great receiver for you.

Ya brand new. You liking your 1910?

Just running some polk audio , don't know the full specs though. (Can see them in my HT gallery) My plan was to use my two fronts I have now as my additional rears for my 7.1 and get two big "tower" speakers and possibly change my center speaker eventually.

I'm mostly getting it to finally hear the difference and experience DTS-MA and True-HD.

And thanks for the help

Ohh yeah, I forgot about the HT gallery. I just looked at your sig. I'm not familiar with those speakers but you should be fine, just double check the specs. Your plan sounds good, just remember to match your center to your front L/R.

I had the 889 and yes, it is a great amp. At that price it's an absolute steal. Congrats!

how do get the volume to display on screen? I read that it has to be over Composite? So if I'm watching a Blu-ray over HDMI from my Slim i can't get it to display on screen (the volume that is)????

That model does not have OSD volume overlay so you will not be able to get the volume to display on screen.

It is covered in the general section of the Denon faq in Batpigs Denon to English setup guide. There is a table describing this on this page:

Proud owner of a 2310! The sound is great and I do enjoy using the Multi-EQ and the Anchor Bay VRS processor for my Comcast cable. I do wish though I would have purchased the 3310 for it’s pre outs.

Congrats on the 2310, it's a nice recieiver for sure. I used to own the 2309, and I really enjoyed it's sound and features. I upgraded for the very reason you stated, I wanted to have preouts. I am hoping to add an amp later this year.

Smart man! Great gear you have by the way. I'm sure adding an amp will help your speakers really "sing" to their potential, although I'm sure they sound great now. I’m just really curious to hear how much better the over all detail increases from adding an external amp. I’ve never had the privilege of hearing a setup with a pre/amp and amp combo.

Default Denon AVR-2310 pre-outs?

A quick question: does the Denon AVR-2310 has pre-outs?
I've seen a few posts here saying it doesn't, but I've just downloaded a pdf manual which definitely shows it has pre-outs and on page 17 describes how to connect an external amp to the pre-outs.

That's interesting I'll have to take a look at the manual. The AVR-2310 does not have pre-outs but the AVR-3310 does.

Is it possible there are different specs in different countries?
The manual I referred too was linked off this site:
http://www.justklapp.com/products/Am...non%20AVR-2310
Also, you can see the pre-outs pictured on this site:
http://www.audioproducts.com.au/Prod...?PID=AVR2310BK
Both sites are Australian.

Honestly this is the first time this has been brought to my attention so I am not really sure. I suppose it's possible. I would simply email Denon directly to ask them. In looking at their website for US products they clear show no pre-outs if you view their photos.

Default Adding Myself to List

I would like to add myself to the list of Denon owners. I have the AVR-4308CI. I have been very pleased with the PQ and SQ of the system. I use the receiver to output to two zones in the house, so it is a workhorse as far as the TV watching goes.

Thanks,
Tom

If you are living in the USA or Canada, No it does not have preouts.

If you are from the UK or Australia, I believe Yes it does have preouts.

Default Adding Myself to List - Again

Although this is the receivers thread, I also own a Denon DBP-1610. I went with that model for the dual outputs. Most players output to either component or HDMI, but not at the same time. With the multi-zone setup, this allows me to seemlessly watch movies on zone two without changing the players output.
