Christian Bale's best performance! Absolutely love this hilariously twisted film. It's brilliant!

The remake is supposedly going to be a TV series, like Hannibal...etc

Can't really fully enjoy the movie because of the old dated master (unsharp, print dust / damage).
It deserves a nice fresh 4k scan.

Yeah, it was one of the first titles I ran out and bought. Went to three Best Buy stores looking for it back in the day

Yes a 4K release would be nice, but at least there are options that don't require you to only enjoy the lossy audio and DNR video of the North American release!

I love my Australian bluray and hug and kiss it every night before I go to bed...with my dead bodies.

xxxxxxxxxx

Call it a guilty pleasure but I love the writer.

Wish Less than Zero would make it to bluray.

It baffles the mind how Rules of Attraction, The Informers, and the Canyons have made it, but the best is nowhere to be seen?

His dark writing and the powerful way the director's interpret his work makes me probably the most alone person when it comes to his films that aren't always well received.

I like the Canyons...shoot me.

I think the newer UK blu-ray looks a tad better than the Australian release (I had that one too).

Interesting because Australian has higher bit rate on the video. The UK does have a DTSMA 24bit though which is a stinger. May have to trade up. Thanks for info. Guess I may have to kick Australia out of my bed.

Did anyone else's US disc suffer from disc rot? My disc played fine for years and has just suddenly stopped. So I took it out and found weird markings on it.

In the end it seems to be splitting hairs (pun intended). I am more of a sound person when its that close. The 24bit is what may push me the UK way.

No, compression is better on the UK disc:

Well with the Australian disc being region free it will be "the best" version for most. I have it and it looks and sounds great.

They are both mpeg4 AVC and Australia has a bigger bit rate (in a large part because the UK dedicates more disc space to sound).

Did you look at the haloing around the hair in the comparison?

I think it is really close, but to say the UK is "better" is an opinion, but the bit rate facts don't support it.

Also if you look at the graph, the higher average is due in a large part to what may be an outlier

Bitrates have nothing to do with better compression often times. The most important factor is the source used and how it is encoded. If you look at the link I posted grain is more resolved on the UK disc. This is not an opinion. It is a fact.

I guess the UK is better if you're obsessive. I see such little difference in compression it's not even arguable, and it won't be noticeable in motion. If anything the AUS is a slight shade greener in overall color cast, but it's still not enough to matter to me, and I'm one for generally wanting the best A/V, even for movies I'm not in love with in my collection. I'm also not one for trying to justify my inferior purchase. In this case, I find the region freedom of the AUS preferable to debatably incremental uptick in A/V on the UK. The only way I'm buying this again is if it gets a 4K remaster.

My initial copy did. I bought that one when blu ray first came out and it was one of the first titles released. The disc was spotless though which really confused me. I've had my second copy for probably 4 years now and it still works fine.

The U.K. BD is better. Not night and day but a welcome improvement nonetheless.

Bud I looked at the link. Zoomed it on my computer after saving.

The UK version seems to have less detail.

Bit rate and disc size is important when they have the same compression.

They are both mpeg4 AVC??? Where do you get that one has different compression??

I am not defending inferior, it is what I see.
