But only Fear and Loathing? With that catalogue of theirs? F&L is an excellent film, but surely you could find other Criterions to your liking.
Actually the only other movie besides Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas that i want to come out with a Criterion Collection Blu-ray is the movie Armageddon.

I usually wait for one of the two deepdiscount.com sales each year to splurge on Criterion discs. When it comes to DVDs or Blu-Rays, I buy very little anymore -- I just rent through Netflix, and if something really strikes me as something I'd watch again, or a classic that I need to have in my collection, I'll splurge in June or November when the Deep Discount 20%-off sale runs.

I used to buy just about everything, then one day realized that I had shelves full of DVDs that I only watched once, which seemed a waste. Netflix is a life (and money-) saver!

Usually they announce new titles after a few get released from their slate... possibly this week sometime, but don't get worried if it goes into next week after those BDs are released it depends. They usually don't follow a strict schedule for announcements. Since they did up the new site the way they are listed usually take forever also not sure why - Used to be it was immediate the tiles sort of got added one at a time really fast and bam they were all listed with specs. Usually take hours for them to go thru lately.

I'm pretty sure it'll be tonight -- since they put up the new site, they were always updating on the 15th, except on February, where they did it on the 13th -- but that was a 28-day month. Yeah, the site takes longer to update and the thrill of finding new releases by manually entering the URL of the spine number is gone, but at least we may count on them being punctual.

I'm pretty sure Armageddon has reverted to Disney, so if it comes out, it'll be the same way The Rock did -- on their label, maybe with the Criterion extras licensed and present.

Criterion can't make their titles region-free due to the nature of their licensing agreements. It's in the FAQ on their site.

Oh, and here are my guesses for today:

Walkabout
Last Year in Marienbad
Gimme Shelter

...and perhaps a wildcard. Oh, how I wish it's The Thief of Baghdad...

Yeah, I'll be cheeky enough and guess four BD titles. One can dream, right?

EDIT: It has begun -- I just caught a placeholder for Bergman Island (on DVD). Fun!

How about the Director's Cut of The Last Emperor! The Criterion DVD has both cuts, the Blu should have been the same, agreed?!

I'm sure they will eventually

It wasn't part of the movies slated for "coming soon" in the previous announcements/rumors

Funny how Marienbad first showed in the New Releases column for DVD.

EDIT: Added My Dinner with André. Just on DVD, for now.

It's the longer TV version, not a Director's Cut -- Bertolucci prefers the theatrical release, which he expanded to provide for the contractual obligation to the Italian TV (RAI, I think) which co-funded the film. But I agree, the release should have had it included, as it was mastered in HD. And it also should have had the original 4-track mix for 70mm prints, and someone should have pointed out to Storaro that his reasoning for cropping the picture to 2:1 (enhancing the resolution, according to him) is virtually moot in the days of 1080p -- but The Last Emperor is still a decent release, if more flawed than the norm.

To illustrate:

Very, very classy (especially if the letters end up being indeed embossed). And the less idea you have of the visuals of the film upfront, the better, in this case. In fact, minimalism really does work for Criterion, and I'm glad that they've embraced it for most of their releases.
