Thanks for the help. I'm really hoping the center will keep up with the C500's. I don't have a huge living room so I'm not too worried about having to fill up a lot of air with dialogue. Since these speakers are discontinued, I wanted to get the best ones out of the C series that I could afford which is why I picked the C500's.

The center channel already has been proving itself to be a much better and fuller speaker than what was in the HTIB setup. True the CC100 would have been better, but my TV stand just couldn't accommodate the larger speaker.

Thanks again and I'll update when I get the speakers in on Tuesday. Should be a good night of breaking them in!

I wonder did you reach the 100 hours of breaking period with your center, cause the difference in sound is also noticeble after that period and you'll be able to crank it up and enjoy it even more.

I've had it for about 2 weeks now. I played it for hours straight while I was at work for a few days. I'm sure it's about half way there now. When the C500's get here, I'll probably be sure to play them from the time I get up to the time I go to bed

However, I did notice a difference in how it's been sounding since I first connected it. Maybe it's just my ears warming up to it

Sorry, I wasn't saying the C-C50 wont keep up, just to keep it in mind if it doesn't. Worst case senario turn the gain on your center channel up a dB or 2. Yes your right they are discontinued so its a great time to buy. I understand the whole accomidation part, that is a main reason I went with the Sony 920 over the Pioneer 1018 and why I went with Energy over other speakers was the C-C100 fit perfectly into my space, I have about and 1/8" on each side and 3/8" total top to bottom. SNUG!

+1, yes the break in is important and they will sound better after that period. I did notice with my center that there was a tonal change just after the 2nd hour, that was the biggest change in sound that I heard, but when it did, it matched the sound of the fronts I had 3 day prior to the center.

Anyways, always glad to have another Energy owner added to the BR.com family

Well I'm eager to get the rest of the Energy speakers and my fronts broken in. I know they are much better than the small speakers that came with the HTIB set up I have now. At least the receiver in my book is solid because it has connected all my devices perfectly and has been running strong for two + years.

I am running the auto calibrate mode on the receiver. Is this pretty decent, or can I get something else that will top what I am doing now? I see people talk about the Audyssey disc, but would I notice much improvement?

Thanks again for the welcome and I'm glad I picked these speakers over the Polk's I was originally looking at! Glad I chose well!

I agree with callas. I own the C-C100 and it keeps up with the C-300s quite nicely. The C-C100 would be a perfect match for the C-500s even in larger rooms.

But using the C-C50 with the C-500s seems to be wishful thinking or too optimistic unless you have a smaller room. And if you do have a small room, there isn't much point in having the C-500s. That's why I bought the C-300s, my HT room is only 20' x 15', and I didn't see much gain in spending so much more for the C-500s.

As callas pointed out, if the C-C50 isn't keeping up, you can turn up the gain on the center, especially for BDs that have poorly mixed dialogue. But, keep in mind that there are sound effects sometimes being sent to the center channel too, and not always just dialogue. Those will be louder too after turning up the center gain.

You can't beat having a center like the C-C100 that can keep up with the C-500s. I suggest checking ebay and craigslist for someone selling a C-C100, and then sell the C-C50 after you find one.

Edit: BTW, try orienting the C-C50 vertically. That might improve dialogue clarity or perhaps better still, if you can't find a C-C100, trying using a C-200 for the center channel. The ultimate HT solution for center channels is to use the same speaker for the center as the fronts. Why not buy another C-500 for the center? That would be HT nirvana.

Well, I'll just give it a shot and see how it works. If it sounds terrible or mix matched, I'll try and upgrade the center channel. But until Tuesday, I'll just be guessing on how it sounds.

I'll also add that I've been listening to more and more music lately now that I can connect my iphone to the receiver. I was told that the C500's are the best for 2 channel music. For now though, HT is outweighing music listening but I'm sure that'll change when the C500's arrive

Yes energys have a nice laidback and warm sound so music can be appreciated and listened to all day long without wearing out your ears. I think you will be VERY happy with the C-500s. Movies are great also.

Thanks. I'm just wanting to hear that I didn't goof and get overpowering speakers. Luckily as another member said, he's heard my setup and thinks it plays well together. We really don't watch movies loudly so perhaps that will make a difference too.

I wish I could have found sites like this before I bought the HTIB setup and did it right the first time. I think I did it all backwards, but I'm slowly righting myself

T-Minus two days

Edit: I actually was going to get Klipsch speakers because I was listening to them at Best Buy, but didn't want to pay the price for them. That's when I started investigating other speakers and came into the Energy thread

I have the Energy Take Classic 5.1 setup. I really enjoy the sound, but anything would be an improvement over the cheapo Sony HTIB I had before.

Well I am glad that you found the Energy Thread. Everyone pretty much starts the way you did. Many of us had a cheap HTiB and then upgraded to one thing, and then another, and on and on. I had a JVC HTiB set that my in-laws gave me, then went to a sony receiver and sony speakers, then to the Receiver I have now and then to the Energys. In a few years I will prolly think of upgrading again, its an expensive habit, but a fun one.

Yes Stang I did ear your setup and it works out pretty well but as Callas mentionned in one of his previous posts you may want to try to bring the center channel level up +2 db, I think this will do the trick. Also ajusting the frequency going to your speakers at 80hz to make sure you filter anything above and set your sub to 80 to filter anything below. This should work out pretty well if your room is not that big.

I hope you enjoy your new speakers and FYI Energy is own by Klipsch since 2006. I like Energy better IMHO.

Ya I'm thinking that's not going to be me for a while. I'm actually quite surprised I am even doing this really. Every time I buy something I ask myself, could this go towards another dive trip? But ever since buying the subwoofer last year, I've been itching to upgrade everything one piece at a time.

I read that Klipsch owned Energy, but they seem to be two completely different sounding speakers. Either way, I think I would be annoyed by the horned tweeters in the Klipsh speakers.

I didn't see in the manual how to change the frequency to 80hz. Just how to change the level in dB increments. I will try adjusting the center up 2 dB and see how that sounds for the time being.

Indeed very different speakers Energy are better balanced IMO. Sound is completely different. Klipsch said that they were going to keep Energy Entity, so can be very distinguish to each other and felt that Energy was a great speaker brand. Only down side is they moved the production in China while I was hoping them to keep it in Canada since I'm Canadian hehe.

I guess it's part of Klipsch plan to make their availibility higher than ever to sell more. They used to be sort of unique since they were not carried in big Stores like Future Shop in canada.

Bottom line is I think Klipsch did a good purchase lol.

BTW I saw your owner's manual online and just to conform with you, I did not find any place to adjust the crossover on your receiver. Oh well next Upgrade I guess.

Ah, just want to make sure I didn't overlook anything. I guess the dB adjustment will just have to do for now.

You Canadians make a good speaker for the price point. I hope the quality doesn't go down now that they have shipped production to China

Hey Stang why not change the surround speakers with a set of c-50 or c-100

Oh I plan on it that's for sure. I'm not sure which to chose, but I'm sure the C50's would do fine since surrounds aren't really that worked out as I've read. Think the C50 will fit the bill or should I just do the C100s?

However, I need to save up for speaker stands too. I want black wood that will hide the speaker wire and not break the bank
