My Oppo and Sony both let you set screen size. My LG has no adjustments. My Samsung TV have “effect” adjustment 1 to 5. As I’ve said it does affect how it’s looks, but it could be like the Darbee, strictly in the eye of the beholder. I long ago quit worrying about whats’s right. If I like it ... it’s right. If the movie people knew what they were doing they would all look the same and we all know that’s not the case. Some people think the differences are artistic license, I tend to think it’s unintentional. Also big difference between TV and projector and I assume TV to TV.

I don't usually pay attention to the convergence point, unless testing. Have experienced in the past a few 3D titles having no noticeable change in depth.
Nothing documented as that would have been prohibitive, with 4 Oppo players in 3 different rooms, verification of settings each time playing a title and their times played. Currently have 715 3D titles in my collection.
Also, I don't recall depth changes with the Golden and Silver age 3D titles.

4 Oppo’s? You have cornered the market.

You started this!

Also have 7 Darbee Darblets and a 103D oppo making it 8 units, for the best in-line enhancement of a 1080P 3D picture before UHD was released. In-line allows lower setting levels for more artifact free enhancement.
Only use them now for my 3D HMD sets and an HD (non 3D) 1080P Sony projector I still have in my theater room.

I love my Oppo 103D and now it’s region free.

Do you have the dongle for region free on any of your Oppos and if you do , do you switch back in forth or leave it?

Found that I needed region-free capability early on with my Oppo 103. Eventually added an Oppo 103D and found the external mod worked on both units. Never had a problem with it failing. Then added an Oppo 203 and bought the compatible mod for that model.. Found out later the first mod works for all the Oppo models. But, glad I don't have to bring it from room to room every time I want to play a region locked disc.

Paul,

Need your help... if you have a 4K TV or Projector, would you still use the Darbee? I just got one because I wanted more pop to my 3D and not sure if I like what it is doing to my 4K HDR projector. I have to of course feed 1080p to the projector and then I guess the projector is upscaling the signal that Darbee is sending? Regardless, I just wanted your opinion on the matter.

Whenever playing Blu-ray 3Ds using my Oppo 103, when connected to the LGE6 4K/UHD OLED, the Darbee always adds clear detail, an enhancement that defines 3D detail and is very satisfying.

With the Oppo 203 UHD player, detail is upgraded between the components and I don't need the Darbee enhancement via the LGE6.

I'm interested in getting an Oppo, but what is the external mod you refer to? I imagine I would need this to go with the Oppo if I wanted region free capabilities?

Didn't they go out of business in 2018? I guess there must be used ones around. Or, did they start making their BR players again?

That is very interesting... so I take it that the Oppo 203 is doing something to the 1080p 3D source to make it better than say your Oppo 103 with Darbee? And if it does, then it makes more sense to actually hook up my Oppo 203 to the 4K Projector instead of regular blu-ray player + Darbee? Your feedback is always so helpful! Thank you so much for what you do for this forum.

I would definitely try the Oppo 203.. Results will always depend on component compatibility interaction and hopefully they have similar receptive specification designs.

The Oppo needs a region free adapter to play discs from other regions that have region locked coding.
As Emoto stated, Oppo discontinued Blu-ray player production.
Both internal and external mods have been for sale.
I like the external mods that plug into the RS232 port on the back of the Oppo. Easy to plug it in and to remove/unplug if and when desired..

Default 3-D Films That Were Shot in 2-D

I'm looking for films that were shot using 2D cameras, but the filmmakers have stated that the film was designed with 3D in mind, or were the 3D version has very deliberate pop-out effects, indicating that it was part of the design.

Guardians of the Galaxy for instance, Mad Max Fury Road, Pacific Rim I believe.

Any more?

I'm sure you'll find there are loads, what with the huge majority of 3D films of the last half decade or more having been shot in 2D. So, I'll just mention what I regard as one of the very best: The Walk. Have you seen it?

Pretty much every big budget studio movie in recent years was shot with the full knowledge that it was going to be converted to 3D. I think it started with Piranha 3D and Alice In Wonderland with a recent example being Long Day's Journey Into Night.

Of course, some filmmakers made no effort to design their films for 3D, like with Blade Runner 2049 and Noah, but it's still often a grey area as to whether the conversion team or the filmmaker are responsible for when it works.
