I checked my sharpness settings to see if I accidentally set it too high by mistake but it was normal. Meh lol ![]() Last edited by The Fallen Deity; 08-14-2013 at 07:09 PM. |

![]() The picture quality looks horrible on my TV when the sharpness is set too high. Edge ringing galore. I agree about TDK, it's edgy as hell even on low settings. Last edited by The Fallen Deity; 08-16-2013 at 09:25 PM. |

The TV I had before my current one was calibrated differently in terms of sharpness but they looked very similar. Funnily enough they were the same make, the only difference was the size of the screen.

Ok, I'm sorry, but I couldn't find it in this massive thrread...
1 - What are all the Wave One titles? 2 - What are all the Wave Two titles? 3 - How much better does the ReMastered in 4K Ghostbusters look over the previous Blu-Ray? 4 - How much better does the ReMastered in 4K 'Zilla look over the previous Blu-Ray? |

I bought Spider-Man 2 (Mastered in 4k) yesterday and I'm a little confused by this Expanded Color xvYCC stuff.
I thought my TV doesn't support it anyway but there is a xvYCC option which is grayed out on ever other disc I tried but with Spidey 2 I can select on/automatic/off. If I select on or automatic the picture changes - the black bars turn grey. Maybe that makes sense because the brightness settings don't fit for the expanded color. I calibrated my TV with this disc: https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Spear...-Blu-ray/4831/ But with that disc I can't select xvYCC so I can't adjust the settings for that color space. Is there a calibration disc that supports xvYCC or another way to adjust the settings? Or is that whole xvYCC stuff overrated anyway so it doesn't make sense to put that much effort into it? |

Blu-ray player: Panasonic BDT120 (identical to the BDT220 but without WLAN, Regionfree firmware which also activates features that are normally only available on the BDT320/500)
AVR: Yamaha RX-V371 TV: LG LH3000 32" Full HD (Small room, so my viewing distance is under 1.5 meters - before anyone says the TV is too small anyway ![]() All EU versions - If that is important - I know that Panasonic deactivates some features in the US. I know, it's not High-End equipment that's why I was surprised that xvYCC seems to be supported. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that (almost?) all LG models support ISF calibration. |

Set your player to output YCbCr 4:4:4. Set the xvYCC setting in your display to ON. Make sure that any video processing in your amp is off. How does it look now? If still nothing, select YCbCr 4:2:2, set colour gamut setting on your display to wide and see how it looks. Its always best, once you have set different settings to turn all your equipment off and then check out the results. Last edited by Tech-UK; 08-21-2013 at 10:27 AM. |

Do I just have to adjust brightness (and contrast?) for xvYCC? |

And to answer your other questions from your previous post, the 1st edition of S&M I do not think there is any xvYCC test patterns or content. On the 2nd edition there are some xvYCC stuff (clipping boxes). But there isn't any xvYCC calibration stuff out there at the moment, that I know of. Have a search online and see if you can find anything. I don't think that the AVS HD 709 content has any xvYCC material/patterns either. Last edited by Tech-UK; 08-21-2013 at 10:59 AM. |

I know it maybe difficult/costly for some, but make sure that your display has been calibrated as close as possible to Rec. 709. Then you know that what you are seeing is correct. xvYCC is still based on primaries and white point of 709 so if the image looks completely different and you need to start changing gamma, brightness, contrast, etc. drastically, then it really isn't worth bothering with, because you will end up with an image that is completely off from 709.
