April 1.
Hilarious stuff. Noir Mode (B+W), and convex screens (like a CRT).
Shittalking of Interlacing and 60fps conversion.
Genius.

Wish Geoff was here to give his take.

8K TVs Expected to Be in 72M Households by 2025

Quote:
In its report, "Ultra High Definition TV Displays: Global Market Forecast 2012-2025," Strategy Analytics predicts that 8K TVs, which provide approximately twice the resolution of the current 4K TVs that dominate the marketplace, will reside in 72 million households worldwide by 2025. This would be a massive jump from the relatively paltry sales of 350,000 globally in 2020.

Strategy Analytics’ forecasting models indicate sales of more than 1 million 8K TVs in 2021 and around 4 million in 2022. North America will be the leading region for 8K TVs by 2025 with close to 25 million households owning at least one 8K TV set. Differences in screen size preference will be a key determining factor in the uptake of 8K TVs in each region with the larger screen markets such as the USA and China seeing the fastest rates of adoption.

It will be hilarious if everyone starts buying 8k televisions as 90% of them or better will likely still be spinning dvds. I know soooo many people with HD and UHD televisions who only buy dvd and they look terrible...it would be better off if they went back And purchased tube TVs again lol...it's like buying a Mercedes and installing a lawnmower motor under the hood....but who am I to judge bring on those lovely 8k screens.

Streaming, the most popular way consumers get their content, offers HD and UHD.

Actually the Samsung 8K sets are supposed to upscale video to 8K. So I guess if you still buy DVD's that comes in handy. I don't buy DVD's anymore new at retail price but I will find a couple used for cheap if the title attracts me I do try to avoid them now. I buy mainly Blu-ray and UHD's and only a very small amount of DVD's if the price is right on them used or at Dollar Tree. I will not buy a DVD at retail price anymore.

This is why Blu-ray never became as huge as it should have been because people call them and confuse them with DVD's.

Slowly though people are catching on especially with all the quality TV's and disc players and I think streaming has helped educate people a ton with the added benefits of increased screen resolutions 1080P, 4K, 8K. People can keep buying 480P discs if they want but I think the future of BD and UHD looks good people catching on. It's a slow process though. Educating the public to screen resolutions and the benefits of increased resolution with home video is key. It takes time, they are learning though.

The studios though need to keep pumping out catalog on BD and UHD for these formats to keep growing.

Too bad the disk sales numbers don't follow your observations and prognostications.

They're still trying to fleece the public into buying 8K displays.

At the end of 2019 there were 1.7 billion TV households worldwide. So 72M . . . a drop in the bucket.

A drop in a very very big bucket! 72 million 8K TVs is a very large # of 8K TVs.

Eh I still think the industry is misfiring for pumping 8K to the degree they are if consumers buying new sets are still mostly watching HD content on netflix accounts, digital download, vudu; and DVD market share is still 66%

I used to like the idea of 8K because I thought it would instantly lower the price of premium 4K lines and so more general public would be seeing better HDR, and us enthusiasts could get bigger screens for our buck.

It didn't, and 2+ years in still hasn't budged the OLED and 4K MiniLED displays. 8K has no impact on 4K pricing. Which is not how this typically goes.
