Yeah, CS kind of fell off a cliff there. Might have something to do with the rep they had leaving the company? Or maybe just having issues with supply chain etc. Hopefully they get it back going in 2024 though...

But the big issue with a 4K disc is the HDR pass, which can be costly (upwards of $250,000 to $500,000). No reason to take on that extra expense if you're a smaller label and you're probably not going to make a ton off this title. |

Been hoping a boutique label does a Blu-ray release of the Carole Bouquet-starring Mystere. |

I'm absolutely ecstatic that FCE is putting these out, they haven't even had HD releases in France so far. With Le Chat qui Fume putting out more and more 80s polars (Les Fauves, La Balance, Brigade Des Moeurs) and a much awaited book covering the genre, I was hoping they'd maybe release Rue Barbare, but this set is great unexpected news.
Rue Barbare was a huge hit when it came out in 1984, along with Tchao Pantin with Coluche, another high point for the genre. It's a tense and grim affair even if it's highly stylized, and you really shouldn't expect a non-stop action film. Giraudeau is very memorable in his role. I'm looking forward to upgrading my DVD. [Show spoiler] Tir Groupé had a French DVD release that's been out of print for a while and now fetches ridiculous prices on rakuten, and I almost caved in for a pricey copy a while ago. I'm glad I didn't. La Liste Noire didn't even come out on DVD as far as I know. If you haven't grabbed it yet and are looking for more 80s French crime, you should absolutely order the Fatal Femmes set from FCE. Neige is a great slice of life in the red light district of the 18th arrondissement of Paris, with interconnected characters dealing with the fallout of a police intervention. If I can get carried away with some wishcasting, I hope we'll maybe see a volume 2 of Seeing Red with L'Arbalète (1984) later on. [Show spoiler] |

New trailers are up:
EDIT: it's kind of funny that the translation is wrong on the percentage at 0:17 for Tir Groupé. The voiceover is saying you have a 90% chance of having your commuter trip be safe, the translated text says 95%. The error carries over to the next sentence ("reste dix pour cent de risque" is translated as "That leaves 5% who risk danger". Not a big deal, but I don't know how you translate the rest and miss something that basic. Last edited by LeDroitDeTuer; 03-05-2024 at 08:12 PM. |

natural enemies..... wow, I wasnt expecting that
A very adult, mature and hopeless movie, one you don't expect from Americans, but from the British. I mean I'm not suicidal or anything close, but almost every point Hal Holbrook makes to kill his family and himself sounded pretty logical to me, was I the only one? probably, good thing I don't own any weapon, hehe (sorry, dark sense of humor) reminds me of what an old friend once told me when I asked him half in jest, half seriously, if now that he was 50 YO what could he advise me, what would be the most important thing he learnt over his life. And he told me, unless you were a moron or too young, delusion was the most important element of happiness, that you only need to adjust it to the right amount, so you wouldn't have too much and lose contact to reality, or too little and have too much of reality. As I grow older I get more and more what he meant, and this movie reminded me of him. holbrook's character one day woke up and didn't have the veil of delusion, of thinking things will get better, and that he had this and that to look forward to. He saw life for what it was now and what probably would be in the future for him and his family, and thought why do I have, or them for that matter, to go through that? there's no point. Im trying to think of a famous mathematician who wrote these very complicated formulas and concluded that the only logical result was that we all kill ourselves. I think some iterations of AI versions gave the same answer. Living life is a bit illogical if you think about it, at least past certain point. When I think is jose ferrer's character says to him that he probably felt the best part of his life was behind him, I think that's how holbrook's character felt too. I'm digressing because this is the kind of movie I won't share with any of my family, and here I can reveal some of the dark thoughts I think most of us have. Don't think its a great movie, strictly speaking, but its a thought provoking one, I mean some of those thoughts about life we all have when we become middle age, but since I rarely seen them reflected on movies I welcomed them, and I wish I had a friend like jose ferrer's character |
