"Gomorrah" is great, but for those of us who already have the UK blu-ray import, it's not that big of a deal. And all the extras seem to be the same between the two discs. The only difference I see is that the UK import has an Italian DTS-HD MA 5.1 audio track while Criterion's site lists an "uncompressed stereo" track.

I just hope that because Criterion decided to release three blu-rays in October doesn't mean that we're only gonna get one for the month of November.

Does anyone know if they plan to re-release Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas in the Criterion Collection for Blu-Ray? I had the DVD version.

Haven't seen Gomorrah yet (though I've heard it's excellent), but it's kind of a lackluster month.

I'm very glad to see Gomorrah get a release. It's great film making, and I'll be adding it to my Blu-ray library for sure.

Question Brazil

Hello all,

I just bought the 2006 re-issue of the "Brazil" Criterion Collection DVD. I decided to buy the single disc edition for $24.99 (versus the 3-disc edition for $59.99). I'm all for deluxe special collector's editions, but I didn't want to buy this, only to have them announce a Blu-ray release of this title in the near-future. I was hesitant to even buy it on DVD, because I want to avoid having to buy it twice. What ultimately led me to make the purchase was the fact that I'm a HUGE admirer of Terry Gilliam's work and this is the only one of his films that I've never seen (I know it's ridiculous...go easy on me). I felt that I had waited long enough.

I have a couple of questions... Do you guys feel that the single-disc version of this film is sufficient or should I have paid the extra money for the 3-disc edition? Any word on this being released on Blu-ray anytime soon (what is the likelihood of this happening)? I guess I just wanna be 100% certain I made the right choice before opening it.

VS.

The 3-disc edition is awesome, with the "Love Conquers All" edit that ruins the movie. At the time of release though, the 3-disc edition wasn't 16x9 enhanced. They later reissued the single disc with 16x9 enhancement. If you do get the box set, check to make sure its anamorphic, or its pretty much worthless.

Wow ... I have to say the new releases for BD lineup of only one title is a huge letdown... esp. since DOWNHILL RACER will only be released on DVD only. I was waiting for this and I can't believe they are passing on the BD release day and date with the DVD release. WOW.

Now that you mention it, I thought they announced awhile back that Brazil was going to be the first criterion blu-ray. I guess that didn't happen.

Strange thing just occured: received two BDs of Criterion's "Last year at Marienbad". One case is thicker than the other and when I say thicker i mean the difference between the thickness of a BD case and that of a DVD case. Anyone else experienced that? Weird.

Yes, the there was a manufacturing problem with the first run of slipcovers for "Last Year At Marienbad," according to Criterion. The first run was thinner and made it much more difficult to remove the disc because the booklet is so thick. I was one of the people that received the thinner slipcover, so I e-mailed Criterion about it. Criterion has great customer service and promptly sent out the correct slipcovers to myself and other people who e-mailed them about it.

I know it it's a DVD set(Olivier'sShakespeare) but the films Henry V and Hamlet have pretty bad PQ(print damage, etc.) and sound quality especially considering these are Criterions plus they pretty much have no extras! But Richard III looks and sounds great and it's a 2-DVD package to boot w/ extras! They claim Henry V and Halmet are restored, but I've see what's posible w/ films like The Third Man,Casablanca,Robin Hood(1938), and so on!

If you go back pages and pages you will see it discussed there.. Criterion was even replacing the slimmer of the two packaging if you e-mailed them but since then they will not do so any longer... they reply stating they will be making an announcement soon on replacement cases for the prior releases that (my guess is for the clear case versions of Third man, Bottle Rocket etc.)
