Before it was announced last Friday that Impact Wrestling would be moving to Wednesday nights beginning on June 3, 2015, Destination America officials made the decision to cancel the show and all other programming from the Nashville, Tennessee-based company. This is according to Dave Meltzer in this week’s issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, which was published Wednesday night.

It was noted to Meltzer that all TNA programming will cease to air on Destination America at the end of the third quarter of the year. This is roughly the last week of September, when the current television season ends. Key people at parent company Discovery Communications were informed of the decision.

Two major reasons were given for the cancellation of TNA shows. While Destination America officials considered the ratings for Impact Wrestling to be good, the numbers were not good enough to justify the cost of the programming. The other problem was that a number of the cable network’s advertisers specifically did not want to advertise during Impact Wrestling.

The decision from Destination America was meant to be kept secret, quite like how Spike executives kept secret publicly last year their decision to drop Impact Wrestling for months after the decision was made and reported. A public acknowledgment is expected to be made when the station reveals its 2015-16 television season prime-time lineup.

Following the March 13, 2015 episode of Impact Wrestling, which saw viewership sink to a new low, Destination America officials made the decision to cancel Saturday morning programming under the belief that eliminating the replay would help the Friday numbers—the only numbers they care about. Although there was a slight increase, all first-run programming with the exception of Impact Wrestling airing multiple times on Friday nights was axed due to the cable network’s difficulty in selling advertisement time. For the May 8, 2015 “live” episode of Impact Wrestling, Destination America purchased an advertisement in the USA Today newspaper to promote the show, believing that additional advertising and it being almost live would lead to an increased rating. Instead, Impact Wrestling did its second lowest number on Destination America, and the replay, which is primarily watched by viewers in the West Coast, drew a record low. Days later, Destination America executives made the decision to cancel all TNA Wrestling programming.

Dixie Carter, President of TNA Wrestling, was made aware of Destination America’s decision early last week although it doesn’t appear that most of the talent knew anything since word of this had not gotten around. Her knowledge of the cancellation may have played a part in Impact Wrestling moving to Wednesday nights, but that is uncertain. Carter didn’t respond to any questions on the subject from Meltzer.

Meltzer noted in his report that Destination America’s decision has not been finalized. Employees at the station, however, not been told anything new since a memo was issued to them informing them of the cancellation.

Depressing news. Might as well give it up and sell the video library to McMahon now. TNA had a good run.

Makes you wonder about the future of Pro Wrestling (on TV) outside of the WWE.

You have Jarrett's GFW just now beginning and last I heard they way searching for a TV deal. I can't imagine that the Lucha show and the Japan show does as good as Impact did in the ratings.

tna issue a statment and threaten legal action?
"It has come to our attention that several internet news sources have falsely attributed statements to TNA, its executives and broadcasting partner. These false statements constitute defamation and if necessary we will seek all legal remedies available to us," said the statement.

Vague statement to save face, there are no specifics and they do no deny they are being cancelled.

Also, pwinsider's Mike Johnson noted on twitter that a denial really should have come from Destination America and not TNA. And because it is from TNA, that is very telling.

Bob Ryder gave another sort of 'denial' on his twitter:

Quote:
For almost 13 years some people have predicted we were about to go out of business. It's no more true today than it was then. #StandUp
Once again, does not deny that they have been cancelled, just that they aren't going out of business. And Meltzer never said they were going out of business.

TNA needs to move to a internet show. maybe have a streaming site like WWE has with the Network and just do the best they can there. They need to scale back and quit trying to compete with RAW/SD and try to compete with nXt which as can be seen with the Joe defection is the real competition to TNA

TNA shouldn't be competing with anyone. Whenever they do the end up miserably failing. Moving to Wednesday is another retarded move because NXT will smash them. They should have stayed on Fridays because there is no other wrestling show going on that night.

Well this may be WHY Destination America cancelled TNA lol. If it is true OMFG what a retard Dixie is.

Quote:
According to the Voices of Wrestling podcast, TNA now has egg on its face after Dixie Carter inadvertently sent an email to Destination America insulting the network.

The hosts said that a wrestler contacted them and were sent a screenshot from last week which featured TNA President Dixie Carter referring to the suits at Destination America as "dummies." The screenshot also revealed that Carter had accidentally cc'd the e-mail to the current President of Destination America.

The hosts also specified that they didn't know if the e-mail was before or after the announcement of TNA Impact Wrestling being moved to Wednesday nights. There are rumors running rampant that Destination America was planning to cancel the show within the past few weeks, a situation that still very well may be happening.

This situation is eerily similar to a situation last year which involved Vince Russo accidentally sending scripts to PWInsider's Mike Johnson instead of TNA announcer Mike Tenay. Previously, Spike TV had requested to TNA that Vince Russo not be involved with a company. TNA opted to keep Russo on secretly anyway.

They should just compete against themselves. To make them better. That's just me.

They dropped the ball by not hriing Paul Heyman back in 2010. I'm positive TNA would be in a different position had they done that. Hogan & Bischoff destroyed it and Dixie Carter has no knowledge of the business anyway.

They couldn't even sell the company due to Dixie's stipulation that she remains as a TV personality because she's obsessed with the spotlight. Shame her ego brought TNA down.

Cant blame it on Hogan and Bischoff both wanted to promote younger talent. Dixie refused to put the required money into the product.

Dixie is clearly not mature enough to run a wrestling company. First rule..... If you get a tv deal, don't piss off the network with childish behaviour. TNA pissed off Spike.....now Destination America for Discovery Channel Networks.... Once is bad enough, this is very poor business-wise and I don't see another network willing to deal with them with repeated issues like this.

As for GFW, Jeff Jarret is being smart how he has done everything for the last year plus attempting to get everything up and running. He'll get a deal because A) He knows how to schmooze networks and B) He has been very professional in his dealings with previous partners.

As for Lucha Underground, that is nearly finalized for a second season and they are increasing ratings every week. El Rey is very happy, as are the producers... Univison is likely to acquire it for broadcast and take it off it's secondary channel and pair it up with AAA. Internationally it's catching on as well... Lucha Underground is being run properly and has the best upswing of all promotions right now.

NJPW....was a hit for AXS tv, it's been renewed for Season 2 and 3. It's going to be around for a while.

ROH.... If Sinclair would just get on board with a better budget, but they've improved since they took ownership. This is the little company that could, it won't die....within 5 years, I suspect they'll have a better tv deal and production values.

House of Hardcore.... Seems to picking up steam and has a tv deal in Canada for 13 episodes.

NXT...Is the second hottest wrestling product. Nothing else to say other than they should tour more and get in front with a tv deal on a different network entirely.
