Night and day. More depth some actual pop outs (snow ), increased contrast, better shadow detail. All because of the Oppo’s settings , the addition of Darbee and the calibration I went through with the 3D test disc. The Sony has very limited adjustments and no 3D depth adjustments at all. I think that is why we see such diverse opinions on quality of 3D and that’s just the player the display can have it’s own issues. The moving bridge scene is spectacular now.

Watched The Meg. Best 3D shark movie. Combination of Jaws, Godzilla and JC Deep Sea Challenge. Some really good 3D and sound. Highly Recommended.

I finally received Jumanji, the Next Level (about 2 1/2 weeks ago- it's been in my mail box while I've been on vacation- LOL delivered just before my mail hold went into effect).
I broke down and just ordered Black Widow- as well as Biohazard (Resident Evil) The (semi) Final Chapter, Ralph Wrecks the Internet, and Terminator 2...... |

I was an 8-track collector back in the 70s and early 80s. I loved the sound and the way the cartridge looked in the player. Unfortunately the problem was the tape becoming either too loose or too tight causing wow and flutter or the aluminum connection snapping and becoming stuck in the capstan. A shame and I wonder if the developers realized that problem from the very beginning. |

Jurassic Park 3D.
I put this on again last night on PJ. 125" screen at 10'. I must say this is one of the best post conversions ever. So many times it looks like either a person or dinosaur is right in the room with you. The part where Richard Attenborough is showing the DNA animation when he pricks his on-screen hand, I could have sworn someone was standing in front of the screen and because of the 125" size it was basically 1:1 life-size person standing there, right when it zooms in on his arm. There is a lot of depth added in this one, it's really quite remarkable what they did with it. I think it's at least the best of the older post conversions, like Titanic, Predator, Top Gun, I Robot, Jumper. Put this one on again and enjoy if you got it! I, Robot, I viewed also again, that had the JVC software conversion so it is not so great. Neither is Jumper but I still give them a watch in 3D. |

Saw Ready Player One and Detective Pikachu. Was really impressed with Ready Player One. Last time I saw that was in theaters and I never cared to watch it again. I wanted to try out my new VAVA projector so I put in on, the movie was better than I remembered and the 3D was mind-blowing!

Don't feel bad about it, having kept them is worse: I have a stash of vintage ones and the other year I tried to play one in a vintage player and the player made like a pitbull and mauled the poor tape.
A neat concept, but the tech really should have gone straight to track-based cassette tapes. Quote:
How was Pikachu on the home projector? I've only seen that theatrically so far. I hope the balloon-hopping sequence at the end took full advantage of the 3D. As I recall, there are scenes looking down from on high in this. Did the 3D go give a sense of vertigo on them? I still suspect Disney wimped out and toned down the skyscraper views in SC to stop viewers from possibly getting queasy ![]() |
